Epic Games got tired of Git. So they built their own version control system. Then gave it away for free.

This is Lore. Announced at State of Unreal 2026. Open source under MIT. Available right now.

Git was never built for game development. When you are working on a project like Unreal Engine or Fortnite you are mixing source code with massive binary files. 3D models. Textures. Audio. Build outputs. Files that are gigabytes in size.

Git handles large binary files through a bolted-on add-on called Git LFS. Perforce handles them better but it needs a live server connection for everything and nobody outside your company can build tools on top of it.

Epic said none of the existing systems solved all three problems together. Large binary handling, offline work and an open specification. So they spent years building one themselves.

Here is what Lore actually does differently:

→ Works completely offline. Commits, branches, switching — all happen on your machine without touching a server.
→ Every file gets a unique fingerprint. Identical data is never stored twice across files or branches.
→ Large files are broken into chunks. Edit one part of a multi-gigabyte file and only that chunk gets re-uploaded.
→ Your machine only holds files you are actually using. Everything else gets pulled down on demand.
→ Built in Rust. Core library, server and CLI all use the same interface. No special privileged commands.
→ Official SDKs for JavaScript, Python, C# and Go ship with it.

Perforce licenses cost tens of thousands of dollars a year. Git LFS is a workaround that was never meant to be a solution.

Lore is free. Written in Rust. MIT licensed. And Epic just put it on the internet for anyone to use.

Hay que ser muy ignorante o de plano tener memoria de teflón para creer que esta gente viene a reconstruir algo, cuando fueron ellos los que dejaron en ruinas a toda #Sudamérica y #Centroamérica.
Nos venden este giro como si estuvieran descubriendo el hilo negro. ¿Neta ya se les borró el cassette de los 70s y 80s? Tuvimos a los peores regímenes militares de derecha haciendo lo que querían. Desde Pinochet hasta Videla, pasando por toda #Centroamérica. ¿Cuál pinche reconstrucción? Nos dejaron represión, miles de muertos y unas deudas externas que todavía hoy nos tienen ahogados.
Y cuando creímos que ya había pasado, regresaron en los 90s muy peinaditos y de traje a vendernos el espejismo de las privatizaciones. Los Menem, los Fujimori... regalaron las empresas del Estado a sus cuates a precio de risa. Nos prometieron el primer mundo y nos dejaron en la calle. Terminamos con crisis asquerosas como el corralito en Argentina que le robó los ahorros a toda una generación, trabajos precarios y una desigualdad brutal. Ni siquiera hay que irnos tan lejos. Hace nada, entre 2015 y 2019, nos recetaron su mentada "ola conservadora". Según ellos venían a arreglar las cosas. ¿Y qué pasó? Macri corrió a pedirle el préstamo más estúpido e impagable al FMI para fugar capitales, Bolsonaro dejó un cagadero histórico en Brasil hundiendo a millones en la miseria extrema, y Duque provocó un estallido social en Colombia por querer ensartarle más impuestos a los que menos tienen.
Así que no vengas con mamadas que la derecha miada es la gran solución. La derecha ya gobernó, ya tuvo todo el poder, ya nos saqueó a sus anchas, y si la gente los mandó al diablo fue justamente por hambre y hartazgo. Son la misma pinche enfermedad que ya nos mandó a terapia intensiva un chingo de veces.
