Everyday, a new low for public health in India. Looks like the Government in Maharashtra has started their own population control program. Homeopathy quacks (legalized "Dr." with BHMS degree) can now do a 6-month pharmacology course and start prescribing modern medicines (which the article wrongly calls Allopathy).
To my friends in Maharashtra, before you visit any doctor, make sure you understand the credentials. Look for BHMS degree followed by a pharmacology course or diploma degree. If you see such credentials please remove yourself from that precarious situation and go to an actual doctor.
You cannot expect a Homeopath who spends their entire life believing in vital force theory of disease, benefits of diluted formulations, totality of symptoms (instead of cause of disease) and bad mouthing medical science every chance they get and promoting anti-vaccine sentiments in their routine practice to suddenly turn out to be competent physicians. They are quacks, will remain quacks and should be treated as quacks.
Good morning.
The weekend witnessed a massive hate campaign directed against me by the pseudoscientific Ayurveda community as well as large account Indian right-wing influencers including "fellow doctor colleagues."
They doxed my work place, threw religious slurs at me, morphed my images, made vulgar racist comments, defamed my family, called us organ traffickers, and named my public health awareness efforts "rabid."
By doing that, they have exposed themselves more. My work and it's importance have become even more valuable.
I appreciate and thank my follower-friends (you know who you are🫶) and doctor colleagues (you know who you are 🫶) here on Twitter for supporting me and helping my voice echo longer and stronger. The public support against pseudoscientific alternative medicine was even stronger and it gladdened me.
ONE event, and now everyone knows how dangerous alternative medicine such as Ayurveda and Homeopathy are. Everyone knows how the practitioners and their supporters are the real rabid cultists.
Why do I strongly oppose Ayurveda and Homeopathy and such alternative medicine practices? Because it has real world outcomes.
Shown in the image below are the various alternative medicines, herbal and dietary supplements that many people took because of advertisements, promotions on anecdotes and health misinformation on social media. They came to me with severe liver injury and some in liver failure for treatments. My team painstakingly retrieved these products from them. Sadly and to my terrible sorrow, most of these patients did not make it. They are survived by their young children or spouses, or aging parents only.
You think your massive hate campaign will deter me? It only makes me stronger. Keep 'em coming. You have no idea of the gargantuan beast you have created with so much hate. I'll keep educating people and public as long as I can, as much as I can. Jai Hind.
Hello Mukesh, let me clear this up for you. I am not part of Rajagiri Hospital. They don't pay my salary. I am part of a consultancy group that provides tertiary care services in Hepatology to Rajagiri under contract. The advanced hepatology services is under my supervision there, nothing else.
Rajagiri is a corporate hospital run by the CMI group. They have all departments, Ayurvedic services included. But this Ayurvedic service is mostly for foreign patients, to provide them wellness therapies like oil massages.
You will never see this department treat patients of other clinical departments. The Ayurveda practitioner there has not even looked me in the eye in the last 4 years I am at Rajagiri. They don't meddle in clinical medicine and does not make any claims of treatment benefits unlike Patanjali quacks. Like every corporate hospital looking for profits through pseudoscientific wellness therapies, this hospital too has such a program. This is not under my control because it is not my hospital and I have not invested any money in this hospital.
Rajagiri does not have a "faith healing" department. They have pastoral care services which means prayer services for the dying when families ask for it. This is irrespective of religion. My department also does not have "faith healing" practices. In fact I treat many patients with liver cancer worsened because of faith healing, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha and Naturopathy.
If Rajagiri was my own hospital or if I was a senior board member of Rajagiri, this Ayurveda department would not even exist in the hospital. I hope this is clear. Now please don't bring this stupid argument again. It does not make Ayurveda scientific. Ayurveda is still pseudoscientific mumbo jumbo. And their practitioners are not doctors. They call themselves doctors only because this scientifically illiterate government and governments before them, has allowed them.
With number of medical seats increasing steeply in India everyday most drs have become 'family' doctors.
Treating Only their families & friends! 🙂↔️
Why should I be ashamed in saying black coffee is a healthy drink? It is, especially for the liver. It is a fact based on scientific evidence. If you are a habitual black coffee drinker, it may also help you gain a 56-inch chest.
Dear friends, good morning. A life update. Even though it was short but sweet, I have decided to quit playing chess on social media with science illiterates and is determined on being "useful" as a clinical doctor.
"You and trolls like you don’t get to decide who’s a doctor."
Legally Homeopathy quacks are allowed to use the title of Dr. in India. Physiotherapists were recently allowed to use the title of Dr. in India.
If that is the case, petition to allow nurses to use the title Dr. because if you ask me, if there is a healthcare group that does closest to what clinical doctors do and even sometimes better than some clinical doctors, then it has to be nurses.
I learned a lot from nursing staff during my MBBS internship. MD in Internal Medicine training in acute wards and DM in Hepatology training in ICU postings. Why not give them the title?
They are much more deserving of the Dr. title than alternative medicine quacks.
Either this, or Indian healthcare hierarchy classification requires a big reset button.
Culturally, Witch Doctors are also Doctors. Just saying.
Kindly stay out of medicine, Vidit. I love u fr ur chess skills. But, I am in charge of Medical Science. I hv spent a lifetime here. Sweat, blood & tears. Evidence based Medicine is Medicine.
AYUSH IS PSEUDOSCIENCE.
