Yesterday we talked about how the Premier League is decided by the big tests. Today, Brighton reminded Arsenal that champions cannot afford to switch off.

3-0. Brighton wanted it more. They pressed harder, won the battles and took control of the game. Arsenal never looked comfortable.

This is a wake-up call.

Maybe the flying start created a little comfort. Maybe the standards dropped for one afternoon. Whatever the reason, there can be NO EXCUSES.

Mikel Arteta has to be at his best from here. The players have to be at their best too.

Winning the Premier League is difficult. Retaining it is just as difficult.

The badge, the talent and last season's title don't win games.

Arsenal have to earn it again.

Yes, governments have the primary responsibility to provide infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and an environment where businesses can thrive.

But governments cannot—and should not—be expected to build everything.

Successful Africans have a role too.

Business owners.
Footballers.
Musicians.
Actors.
Entrepreneurs.
Professionals.
The wealthy.

If you have benefited from a community, you can help strengthen that community.

You don't have to build a $20 million factory.

Build a school.
Fund scholarships.
Create jobs.
Support farmers.
Train young people.
Invest in a small business.
Give someone the opportunity you once needed.

Because there is a fundamental difference between spending wealth and investing wealth.

A supercar depreciates.

A luxury watch loses value.

A mansion eventually becomes just another building.

But a factory can employ people for decades.

A school can educate generations.

A business can create other businesses.

A trained young person can transform an entire family.

Material wealth can depreciate. Human investment compounds.

Sadio Mané is showing that giving back doesn't have to mean charity alone.

Sometimes the greatest gift you can give your people is an opportunity to build something for themselves.

The question every successful African should eventually ask isn't:

“What can my money buy me?”

It should be:

“What can my success build that will still matter when I'm gone?”

That is the conversation Africa needs.
