1990, the UK was just as locked-in on the use of #coal to produce #electricity as Germany. September 30, 2024, the UK's last remaining coal-fired power station will close, ending 140 years of coal. A remarkable job in #energytransition and cutting #CO2 https://t.co/K9XFUsMQRN
"We need an empire of the good". Guy Verhofstadt in Iceland giving his pitch for a federal Europe. Historic! Iceland will soon vote in a referendum to join the Union 🇪🇺
Good call with President @ZelenskyyUA. Dear President, Ukraine will not face this winter alone.
The EU stands with you, providing emergency energy support to help Ukraine through the coming months.
At the same time, we are working on options to ensure the necessary sustained financial assistance to Ukraine.
Tomorrow, we will adopt our Enlargement Package, which will commend Ukraine’s remarkable commitment to its European path over the past year.
The Commission’s message is clear: Ukraine is ready to move forward.
“Only weakness encourages Russia. We must not show fear in the face of their aggression, because that is exactly what they want.”

Great news for Ukraine!
Zelenskyy: Ukraine now has more Patriots.
I want to thank Chancellor Merz, thank Germany and everyone who supports our agreements.
Still we need more systems to close the key infrastructure facilities of our cities.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: I had a meeting with representatives of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Canada, and the Netherlands to NATO and praised their countries’ contributions to our defense.
We are grateful to Germany for the Patriot systems, to the United States for the opportunity to purchase weapons and air defense systems through the PURL initiative, to the United Kingdom and France for the missiles, to Canada and the Netherlands for their contributions to the PURL initiative, and to all other countries for their assistance. This support truly saves lives of our people, and it is very important that new countries join the initiative.
We discussed opportunities to strengthen the protection of our energy system ahead of winter: the purchase of air defense systems and missiles for them, as well as the reinforcement of our tactical aviation. We also discussed the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia and other key pressure points to compel it to end the war.
It is good to be back in Bosnia and Herzegovina following the UN’s renewal of the @euforbih mandate.
The world recognises that EUFOR helps keep the country safe.
The dedication and professionalism of our troops here are what makes EUFOR a success.

🇩🇪 Germany wants to close a loophole for Putin and end all steel imports from Russia
German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil sharply criticized the EU ahead of the upcoming “steel summit” in Berlin.
🛑⚙️He demands a full ban on Russian steel imports, pointing out that Moscow is still sneaking steel slabs into the European market by having them formally reprocessed inside the EU and bypassing sanctions.
“You cannot explain to any worker in our steel industry why Europe still keeps the market open for Putin,” Klingbeil said.
On November 6, Berlin will host the “steel summit,” where Friedrich Merz will meet representatives of the steel industry and prime ministers of German states with major steel production.
“Putin is a liar, a murderer and the one responsible for systematic torture, child abductions and the rape of civilians. And there is plenty of evidence for that!”
A fellow Trump party member, Republican Senator Tom Tillis, laid out the stakes clearly, stressing the importance of supporting Ukraine:
“If you think Ukraine is a country across the ocean that has nothing to do with our national security, think again. What is at stake is the strength of our alliances. And the future of democracy and the whole world is at risk if we do anything less than victory over Putin.”
I actually live in a small English village. It’s total codswallop what @elonmusk is saying.
We’re not “hobbits under siege” we’re ordinary people - how rude to patronise us like this.
It’s fear-mongering dressed up as folklore.
🇪🇺🇬🇧 Brits would consistently vote to rejoin for more than 7 years now. Isn't it bizarre how one snapshot in time can have such big consequences? Especially how small the margin was and everything we now know about Russian propaganda

Oh look ! Man whose Brexit is costing exporters an extra £15 billion/yr with 2 billion pieces of extra paperwork because the UK insisted on putting up barriers with its main market says he'll "reduce bureaucracy for UK firms"
Who'll be idiotic enough to believe him this time ?🤡
This is the reality, these are the facts, green energy brings bills down. Farage, Badenoch and now Blair - stop (fossil fuel) gaslighting us for your own gain. Green energy is a vital national interest.

Earth just had its hottest October 24th and 25th in recorded history, and likely the hottest in 120,000+ years.
Our planet is now warming at least 10 times faster than it did after emerging from the last Ice Age.
