The President of Senegal is one of our confirmed esteemed speakers at the Next Steps Conference on Reparatory Justice being hosted by President Mahama.
President John Mahama’s official visit to France on the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron has been a resounding success.
Ghana and France have agreed to deepen our bilateral cooperation with concrete projects across priority sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, aviation, public health, science, technology, AI, education and counterterrorism.
A major highlight of the bilateral engagement at the Élysée Palace was President Macron’s declaration that despite France’s abstention during the historic March 25 UN Vote on the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity, France is willing to have an open and honest dialogue on the matter.
President Macron added that France stands ready to work with our global reparatory justice coalition on dismantling structural racism, returning looted artifacts, support for historical research, pursuing accountability and addressing the rigged global economic order.
The French President asserted that in principle France was not opposed to the Ghana-led UN resolution as France was the first European nation to pass a law making slavery a crime against humanity.
Ghana commends France for this forward looking, honest and constructive approach towards the reparatory justice imperative.
We hope other nations who abstained and voted against the landmark UN resolution will reflect and emulate France’s worthy post-adoption posture.
Before the presidential bilateral talks, President Mahama inspected a guard of honour and held a fruitful meeting with the President of the French Senate, Hon. Gérard Larcher.
We value the outstanding Ghana 🇬🇭 France 🇫🇷 relations.
A truly impactful One Health Summit co-chaired by President John Mahama and President Emmanuel Macron in Lyon.

President Mahama will later today co-chair the summit with President Emmanuel Macron which has attracted more than 3,000 participants including policymakers, public health experts, scientists and activists.
After the summit, President Emmanuel Macron will host President John Mahama tomorrow at the Élysée Palace for an official visit expected to advance our strategic bilateral relations.
A stronger Ghana 🇬🇭 France 🇫🇷 partnership on the development issues that matter to our people.
President Mahama today began his one-day official visit to Paris with a meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gerard Larcher.
He was welcomed with a military ceremony before the bilateral meeting, which discussed among others trade and investment, regional security and the fight again terrorism, France support for maternal health and agriculture in Ghana and the remarkable improvement to Ghana’s economy under President Mahama.
Mr Mahama and his delegation, which includes the Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Dr Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Mogtari and Ghana’s Ambassador to France Mavis Frimpong will later today hold talks with the French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.
President John Dramani Mahama was accorded a full state welcome with military honours at Les Invalides in Paris ahead of his official meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The ceremony, marked by rich tradition and precision, underscored the enduring diplomatic ties between Ghana and France, as both leaders prepare to engage on key areas of bilateral cooperation and global partnership.

From the Lecture Halls of Legon to the Moon: Celebrating Christina Koch
I join the University of Ghana and the entire nation in celebrating NASA Astronaut Christina Koch on her historic membership of the Artemis II mission.
It is a point of immense pride to learn that Christina, the only woman on this pioneering lunar mission, was once an exchange student at our very own University of Ghana during the 1999/2000 academic year.
Her time at Legon was not just a passing visit; she truly immersed herself in our culture and heritage. By studying the History of Ghana, the History of Africa, Rural Sociology, Music, and even Twi for Beginners, she built a foundation of global citizenship right here in Accra.
Her gesture of hoisting the Ghanaian flag in outer space was a deeply touching moment for every Ghanaian. It is a testament to the fact that no matter how far one travels, even into the vastness of space, the friendships made and the lessons learned stay with you.
Christina’s journey from the classrooms of the University of Ghana to the frontiers of space exploration serves as a powerful inspiration to every young Ghanaian. It reminds us that our educational institutions continue to produce and shape global leaders who break barriers and reach for the stars.
On behalf of a proud nation, I wish Christina Koch and the entire Artemis II crew godspeed on your return journey to earth. May your success continue to inspire generations across Ghana, Africa, and the world to believe that there's no height that is insurmountable.
Congratulations, Christina.
Ghana is proud of you!
