why has nobody really figured out how to be a genuinely technical rapper in the traditional & lyrical sense while also fully embracing the production & flows that the new underground loves?

like where’s the rapper with Vince/Joey/Earl-level song-writing ability who sounds completely natural over rage, jerk, hyperpop etc.

are the people doing both just being overlooked? is nobody good enough to do both at a really high level? are those beats too sonically dense to accommodate equally dense rapping? or do people just not want to hear that?

vince seeing his music as a labor (of love) and a craft is EXACTLY why he’s one of the most consistent artists of his gen and still relevant today, and i dunno why ppl are failing to see that.

how many artists came up at the same time he did and lost their creative drive or hit a wall immediately after??? too many to count.

vince is focused and functional. that might make him seem a little aloof and above the trappings of fame, but it’s what makes him him. plus, what artist is gonna geek out over their own work in an interview anyway? he knows how the sausage is made and isn’t going to comment on his own songs like a fan would.
