If youβre moving from Ghana π¬π to Canada π¨π¦ and youβre unsure which city or territory fits your vibe, hereβs the unofficial Ghanaian survival guide nobody gives you.
π¨π¦ Toronto, ON = π¬π Accra
Fast life. Networking. Hustle. Expensive rent. Everybody is building something, selling something, or chasing a breakthrough.
π¨π¦ Brampton, ON = π¬π Kasoa
Packed diaspora energy, churches everywhere, family life, traffic at random times, and somebody always knows your uncle.
π¨π¦ Mississauga, ON = π¬π Tema
Organized, suburban, comfortable, professional crowd, and close enough to Toronto without carrying all the stress.
π¨π¦ Ottawa, ON = π¬π Cape Coast
Educated atmosphere, government workers, calm lifestyle, and people who like stability over noise.
π¨π¦ Montreal, QC = π¬π Ho
Culture-heavy, unique identity, arts, language adjustment, and a slower more thoughtful lifestyle.
π¨π¦ Quebec City, QC = π¬π Keta
Beautiful, historic, proud culture, peaceful environment, but you must adapt to the language and local way of life.
π¨π¦ Calgary, AB = π¬π Kumasi
Money mindset, entrepreneurship, family values, clean roads, and people quietly stacking wealth.
π¨π¦ Edmonton, AB = π¬π Sunyani
Underrated, affordable, hardworking people, strong Ghanaian community, and winter that builds character immediately.
π¨π¦ Fort McMurray, AB = π¬π Obuasi
People came for work and money. Shift life. Oil economy. Everybody is grinding toward property or investments back home.
π¨π¦ Vancouver, BC = π¬π Cantonments / Airport Residential
Beautiful scenery, soft-life aesthetics, healthy living, but your account balance must be spiritually prepared.
π¨π¦ Surrey, BC = π¬π Spintex
Rapid growth, immigrant energy, businesses everywhere, and communities expanding fast.
π¨π¦ Winnipeg, MB = π¬π Tamale
Resilient people, affordable living, cold that humbles everybody equally, and surprisingly strong African communities.
π¨π¦ Saskatoon, SK = π¬π Bolgatanga
Quiet, practical, affordable, and good for people focused on work, school, and long-term goals.
π¨π¦ Regina, SK = π¬π Wa
Simple lifestyle, slower pace, community-oriented, and not trying too hard to impress anybody.
π¨π¦ Halifax, NS = π¬π Cape Coast / Elmina
Coastal calmness, student energy, history, peaceful living, and people who genuinely greet you outside.
π¨π¦ St. Johnβs, NL = π¬π Ada
Remote vibes, ocean life, resilient locals, weather unpredictability, and a small-town feel where people know each other quickly.
π¨π¦ Whitehorse, YT = π¬π Hohoe
Nature everywhere, adventurous lifestyle, quiet confidence, and you either love the outdoors or you suffer.
π¨π¦ Yellowknife, NT = π¬π Tarkwa
Mining, government jobs, survival mentality, expensive groceries, and people making serious northern money.
π¨π¦ Iqaluit, NU = π¬π Bawku during harmattan season
Remote realities. High cost of living. Strong community bonds. Extreme weather. You must be mentally prepared before relocating here.
Which one did I get right?
And which city did I miss?
It's The Heritage Month. Every Ghanaian must own a Caveman watch. It's owned by a Ghanaian and it's a reflection of our cultural pride. Please repost this for a Ghanaian brand. @cavemanwatches
I find money conversations on this app very strange. Thereβs no universality in the function of money to people. It is all shaped by our individual circumstances.
Whatβs nothing to you is another personβs dream. Thatβs how Iβve come to see it. Iβve seen people do more with less and others do little with more. 10k is everything to someone and nothing to another. No averages here. Everyone just has different levels to the same needs.
We may all have rent problems, but the kind of accommodation youβre looking for differs from another personβs. Same applies to a car, a house, the school you want to send your children to or the hospital you want to attend. The kind of vacation you dream for your family isnβt the same as another personβs. You want to go to Greece, another simply wants to go to Labadi beach for a chill Sunday. Both are valid forms of fulfillment.
Economists and sociologists have discussed this topic extensively; moneyβs utility is purely subjective. So itβs quite tiring to always have to see the way people view money as an objective measure of comfort. Our comfort levels are dictated by the taste of our needs.
Somebody once came on this platform and said if youβre 30 and you donβt have GHS100k saved in your bank account, youβve failed in life. That just completely ignores the fact that the greatest minds of money donβt even encourage saving; they encourage investment. And investment isnβt just about buying stocks and T-bills, it could be an investment in your education, your childrenβs education, your health, your house etc.
Donβt let anyone pressure or gaslight you into thinking youβre completely worthless because you donβt earn in a certain bracket.
By all means aspire to earn more money, but you donβt need to earn in the bracket of what another person has determined to be sufficient before you can do great little things in your life.
Have a good evening!
