Following scheduled maintenance, #TunnelBoringMachine Elsie launched from South Granville Station yesterday afternoon.

Watch her arrival at South Granville here. She now joins already-departed TBM Phyllis en route to Cypress Street.

Following scheduled maintenance, she’ll join already-departed TBM Phyllis as they make their way to Cypress St.

Phyllis broke through the east wall of the future station yesterday just before 7:30 pm.

Following maintenance, she will embark on the last leg of her journey to the future Arbutus Station!

Here's how tunnel liner rings are built as the #BroadwaySubwayProject tunnel is excavated!

A vehicle delivers tunnel segments to the tunnel boring machine. The TBM then lifts & moves the segments to the “segment erector,” which installs each segment to form a ring.

Phyllis broke through the east wall of the station box at 10:30 am today. She has been traveling beneath the city streets since departing Mount Pleasant on April 18th!

Today shortly after 2:30 pm, #TunnelBoringMachine Elsie broke through at Broadway-City Hall Station!

Now she will take some time to rest and receive maintenance before continuing on to her next stop at the future Oak-VGH Station.

In April 2022, the 1st shipment of #TunnelBoringMachine parts arrived.

Last October, TBM Elsie launched on her journey, with TBM Phyllis following in November.

Now, Elsie is approaching Broadway-City Hall Station & Phyllis will depart from Mount Pleasant Station very soon!

It’s 80 metres long, 20 metres wide and 17 metres deep - and at about 27,200 cubic metres, it’s roughly the same volume as 11 Olympic-size swimming pools.🏊

Just before 2am on Saturday, #TunnelBoringMachine Phyllis had her 1st breakthrough @ the future Mount Pleasant Station! 🎉

Now Phyllis, just like Elsie before her, will receive maintenance & move through the pre-excavated station before continuing to Broadway-City Hall Station.

Both machines will travel 5km down Broadway, breaking through at 5 #BroadwaySubwayProject stations along the way!
