72 DAYS ON THE THRONE (SSEKABAKA KIWEEWA) ๐โค๏ธ
Ssekabaka Mutebi Nnyonyintono Kiweewa was the 32nd Kabaka (King) of Buganda, who reigned briefly from August 2, 1888, to October 21, 1888.โ๏ธ
He was the eldest son of Ssekabaka Muteesa I Mukaabya Walugembe, and his mother was Kiribakka from the Mamba (Lungfish) clan.
Kiweewa was placed on the throne by a coalition of Christian and Muslim chiefs after they successfully rebelled and overthrew his younger brother, Kabaka Mwanga II.๐
His reign lasted for only about two months. Tension arose when Muslim factions demanded that he undergo circumcision to fully convert to Islam. Kiweewa refused, leading to a violent coup. He was deposed and replaced by his brother, Ssekabaka Kalema Rashid.
After being deposed, Kiweewa was eventually killed during the religious wars in 1889. His royal tombs (amasiro) are located at Masanafu, Kyaddondo.
