The controversial "Panzer Halt" in the fight for Dunkirk is one of the thing we'll be asking Robert Kershaw about when he comes on History Happy Hour this Sunday to discuss his new book "Dünkirchen: The German View of Dunkirk." Sunday at 4PM ET. https://t.co/sltJuPg7ah #WWI
This week, we had the honor of sitting down with another centenarian, Tom Anderson, one of the very few remaining veterans of the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops unit, better known as the Ghost Army.
In the final year of the war in Europe, the US Army created a top secret unit designed to create the illusion of entire tank battalions in places where there were none. Utilizing a team of artists, they created inflatable rubber tanks that would be set up in areas where German spy planes could easily spot them and report their location to their leadership, causing them to adjust their battle plans. Tom's job was to operate a bulldozer in the dead of night creating the fake tank tracks so that the illusion was complete.
We're honored to be able to meet one of the last surviving members of such a unique and important unit, and we thank him for sharing his stories with us!

Next Tuesday, March 16, I will be talking about the Ghost Army at TF South High SChool in Lansing, IL - where my wife Marilyn graduated from HS back in 1969! And the inflatable tank will be there as well! #WWII#Deception
When people ask me why the story of The Ghost Army was kept secret after the war, the answer is: Deception works. And some of the same techniques that worked 80 years, with a few modifications, are working well today. #Ukraine#deception#WWII#Maskirovka
