That mentality is from, I don't know, 10 years ago at best. I don't think any developer with experience publishing games thinks that way. I think you don't understand what Next Fest is all about. It was a space to try out demos, discover interesting games, and give unknown indie developers a chance to get a boost in traffic. With this oversaturation, that purpose is dead.
@TheSpeakerGem Unfortunately, having a better product doesn't guarantee anything. And even more so when the first thing you see is a saturation of low effort projects in the store... This is becoming the Android Play Store.
So 7 to 8k demos glut of passionless, low effort projects, AI slop everywhere.. I’m seriously starting to reconsider whether I should even participate in the next Next Fest. I’ve been slowly improving my game and my demo, and I even hired a new 3D modeler to help out, but it’s so demotivating to think that all that effort might just get lost in a sea of AI generated junk with one prompt.
Next Fest is back, with a new and improved UI for all your browsing needs! From now until October 26th, check out thousands (literally) of demos for games of all types - from frantic cooking typers to frozen railway games, there's something for everyone.

I'm not against AI; I think it's a very useful complementary tool that can help a lot and makes it easier for many people to create something they couldn't before... but I am against "one prompt" projects, copy of a copy games that only seek to take advantage of the virality of another original game to earn a few easy dollars.
This is another highly debatable point, because I want to showcase my game and promote it, and I do. I know that in my case there won't be much interest in cloning it, but many indie games with simple mechanics or original ideas that aren't very complex get cloned in less than 24 hours once they go viral... I'm literally seeing many indie games that don't want to showcase their game anymore because of that.
@SYDGamesStudio I know, and I'm not saying this because of them. I'm sure that at least 1000 to 2000 games have soul and aren't just a simple cash grab. The end of Next Fest will tell if they managed to get more views or if all the extra weight buried them.
The thing is, it's not a hobby for me, it's not just about having fun, it's about supporting my development studio, my colleagues, and their families. Next Fest was the space to showcase your game and get an extra boost on your wishlist, which for many indie games meant the difference between failure and success at launch. I'll have to wait for the results of this Next Fest, see how it ends, and how much it affected the games.
Uh no, I don't know if you've seen the indie development scene, many are afraid to even show their games, and this is something that has always happened but now it's a matter of time what used to take weeks now takes a couple of days and the copy of the copy of the copy that floods everything and takes away visibility from other projects.
This is so sad, I wishing everyone affected by the layoffs all the best, BioWare was one of the studios that made us fall in love with games and want to start developing our own.
A small preview of what’s coming in the next demo update: the unit information panels have been redesigned, and a tooltip has been added to help you quickly understand what each element represents. Additionally, the unit garrison display now includes flags and a glowing border in the faction’s color.

A new update will arrive in the coming weeks, featuring a rebalancing of units, new infantry units, and numerous quality-of-life improvements and keyboard shortcuts... though if you are in Argentina, you can try it out early at this event.

Well, here’s a new update on what’s coming: all factions now have their own mech tanks and infantry. Mech tanks can simply crush everything in their path as they move, while infantry can now occupy buildings, using them to secure better attack positions or set up ambushes.

Yes! Infantry can now occupy buildings, so that’s the first thing I did after looking at the infantry (since they’re the weakest unit, occupying buildings is absolutely essential if they’re to have any fighting chance). As for APCs, I’m considering them alongside transport trucks (we already have supply trucks up and running); perhaps an APC could carry one infantry unit and the trucks two, but I’m still experimenting with that.
