Unpopular opinion: if you can’t afford quality groceries, don’t have kids. If you can’t afford to feed your dog anything but kibble, don’t, uh, have a dog.
Unless you’re in a difficult situation and the animal is your service or (emotional) support animal. Then yes, your health comes before theirs. Humans before animals, always.
That said, animal welfare should be an important topic and treating animals well is a hallmark of a civilised society. Quality of the western man, actually.
I just adopted my elderly family dog. Her breakfast is: ground pork shoulder (~7% fat), raw egg, gelatine, mashed blueberries, apple purée, bee pollen, honey and eggshell calcium.
Since I’m apparently a dog owner now, I’ll be posting much more about how I feed her and pet welfare in general.
So I guess… buckle up?
