🔥ARSON ARREST: Police in Jefferson County, CO say a 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a brush fire near State Highway 74 on June 29th.

Authorities say the suspect was spotted near the fire at the time of ignition and found a lighter near the origin point.

An officer was able to quickly extinguish the flames until fire crews arrived.

Colorado has more than 75k acres burning across multiple wildfires as of June 30th.

Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #COwx

Deputies were first on scene and immediately used fire extinguishers to knock back the fire until crews could get there. The JCSO Wildland Fire Management Team responded shortly after and helped douse hot spots.

Their quick action helped slow the fire’s spread and protect the area during a fast-moving situation.

New LEAVE NOW evacuation orders have gone out due to the 12,376 acre Gold Mountain Fire burning near Ouray, Colorado.

The fire remains active and is pushing into these areas:

EVACUATION ORDER in effect for the area East of US 550 north of County Road (CR) 8 and south of CR 8A east to the US Forest boundary south to CR8 B along Cow Creek. Anyone in this area should EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY DUE TO RAPID FIRE GROWTH.

EVACUATE the Forest Service lands in the Cow Creek, Big Cimarron, and Silver Jack Basin areas. Lands to the east of Hwy 550, south of Hwy 50, and west of East Fork of the Cimarron are closed.
