@mattzollerseitz When I first saw it, around 25 minutes in I thought: “Oh geez, are they going to do the whole movie without dialogue?”
Wish they’d had the guts to do it. What a bold choice that would have been.
@mustachetoilet Yeah, there are lots of missed opportunities (some might say “gaps”) like that in HotD.
I’m all for a show about political scheming and power. But that kind of show can’t just wave away big moments and their consequences.

@AmandaAskell I assume god can rank all people’s deserving-ness for hell, based on goodness (to this point & expected future).
I estimate I’m the 85th percentile (pretty good, still young), so god’s “fair” m for me is 6 (1/7~.85).
Given my bias for my own life over a random one, I say 7.
Allie, I love where you’re going with this tweet. Brilliant stuff.
You’re going to have no problem getting tons of likes.
However, I have to pass on liking your tweet at this time. I just couldn’t get to conviction that you tweet was actually good.
Let’s stay in touch!
I once considered @Shopify for a side project. When you dig a little deeper, though, you hear a *lot* of stories like the one below.
I’ll never use the platform.
Although I applaud @tobi for the ingenious “profitability-via-kafkaesque-kleptocracy” strategy.
This is a thread about the dark side of @shopify, which began destroying our family bookstore and stealing money from our customers one day after our first independently published work, The Deadwood Bible -- a book 3 years in the making -- arrived from the printer. 1/
@krijnhaasnoot Hi there. Thanks for Kinder -- its' great! One question: is there a way to see just the names that *I* have liked so far? The full list, not just the ones that my partner has also liked. Thanks!
@mustachetoilet The style has shifted several times as it’s gone on, so the series is an action movie Rorschach test.
Which ones you love/hate says a lot about what you value in an action movie. Worth it for that alone.
@iammattduff Facts. I walked in biased against it; I found character boring in the movie.
But Gunn knows how to do characters and camaraderie. The vibe and music are distinctive. Plot is fun but focused. Doesn’t try to do too much, didn’t have to set up 12 spin-offs. Just good.
@jillgun Agree. The Olson video was a catalyst for many I know - validated their own research and intuition about the space.
Previously they were mildly skeptical. Realizing other smart people are bearish has caused a bit of a preference cascade.
I’ve seen a big shift in the last 4mo.
@BetterRivals Great show. Listener since 2012, enjoyed it through good seasons and bad. You guys educated me about football and got me through a lot of trail runs.
Hope you’re proud of your impact, and I’m looking forward to wherever you do next.
@ZachLowe_NBA I was moved listening to your pod today.
My childhood basketball coach used to say “Sports don’t build character; they reveal it.” Learned everything I needed to know about Joan’s character from your story.
Best wishes for her speedy recovery.
@FoldableHuman This was absolutely riveting.
Thanks for putting words to some of the tingling feelings at the base of my skull re: the crypto economy, plus a whole bunch of new ideas. I learned a lot. A+
@dbasch@EmilyMandel Similar experience. I picked it up last year and was delighted at its intimate scope. Stayed up most of one night finishing it.
I recommend the HBO series, too. Story varies a lot from the book, but equally thematically rich. Beautifully shot and directed.
@IDoTheThinking Apparently Rian Johnson wrote an outline for episode 9. Was scrapped when JJ took it over. Really hope that surfaces someday.
TLJ was a surprisingly bold evolution of the original SW themes. Deserved an equally ambitious & thoughtful conclusion. Instead of… what we got.
