I'm a Vietnamese banker-turned-English teacher. I love learning new things and exploring life, which partly justifies my love for the English language.
I would like to correct the last sentence of my original tweet to: "This is the same as when you only have 5 spots but can choose from 10 numbers." so that it aligns with the example in the tweet. Sorry, I'm just not a perfect machine 🤪
O O O O O → 5 spots. An eligible combination must have 5 different numbers → how many possible combinations?
Solve: First spot can take numbers from 0→9: 10 choices. For each choice of the first spot, there are 9 possible choices for the second spot → 9+9+...+9 (10 times) = 10x9 combinations. For each of these combinations, there are 8 possible choices for the third spot → 8+8+...+8 (10x9 times) = 10x9x8 combinations. Continue the process up to 5 spots → Total number of possible combinations = 10x9x8x7x6
I know this kind of reasoning is very basic, but it's the foundation for complex things later on in math and computer science. And only with a solid foundation can you build a strong castle. For example, the same reasoning underlies the formula of permutation: the number of permutations for n distinct objects is n! (n factorial). Sometimes you arrange only r objects chosen from n, the formula is: P(n,r) = n!/(n-r)!. This is the same as when you only have 5 spots but can choose from 9 numbers.
Ps: I used the word "combinations" for an easy, quick example. Strictly speaking, I should have used the word "ways" instead of "combinations" because in probability, permutation and combination are two different concepts. For permutation, order matters (A-B and B-A count as different). For combination, order does not matter, only selection matters (A-B and B-A are the same combination).
There are many journalists and writers nowadays who write about technology, AI and computer science without basic technical knowledge of the field. I still value their perspectives, but I just wonder if it’s possible to adequately analyze the impact of something without knowing how it works internally.
I don't know about those expats, but I've always been afraid of being wrongly labeled as taking advantage of a man who might be in a better position. I don't plan to marry anyone, even guys as rich and famed as Elon Musk. As long as we're still in love, my partner and I can stay together. Otherwise, he can go and I'm able to take care of my kid by myself.
.@lexfridman was hanging out with some very random guys in China, which looks fun. But we don’t know where he is now. He might be back in the US or somewhere in a rainforest in Africa. Will he ever do meaningful activities like spending time with fans, who truly appreciate his work and wish to learn from him? 😔
Just a quick, random appreciation post for my role model @lexfridman, because I'm learning stochastic algorithms right now.
Thank you for inspiring me to learn programming and computer science, so that I have a chance to discover how much I love this field 😻🥰 Although I'm not particularly gifted or exceptional at it, I'm determined to keep exploring and pursuing it with genuine eagerness and enthusiasm. Thank you for always reminding your audience to stay curious and resilient in our intellectual pursuits.
Ps: I'm reviewing knowledge about probabilities, specifically the multiplicative rule: When events are independent of each other, the probability of all of the events occurring is equal to a product of the probabilities of each of the events occurring. For two events A and B, independence means: P(A∩B) = P(A)P(B). This formula stems from conditional probability - the probability of B occurring given that A has already occurred: P(B|A) = P(A∩B)/P(A). We can prove this. The portion in the probability of A that belongs to both A and B is P(A∩B). So, if we divide P(A∩B) by P(A), we’ll get the probability of B occurring inside A and that’s exactly P(B|A) 😻
Sorry, it's nothing. I'm just randomly sharing what I've learned 🤭 because it's more gratifying to get to the root of a problem than to simply accept a rule 🥰
@VickyG853480689@sandrag926@lexfridman They are just some Americans of Vietnamese descent living in the US. You can’t conflate them with the vast majority of Vietnamese women in my country
@VickyG853480689@sandrag926@lexfridman So when is the wedding?? He’s been traveling with some guys in rural China, going around with Jensen and meeting Chinese tech engineers. He didn’t seem like a man preparing for a wedding with the love of his life
@VickyG853480689@sandrag926@lexfridman Once he said he hadn’t found a suitable woman, then he’s been working nonstop and traveling. Why is he getting married, with whom? 😖 Where did you hear about this?
