COMING SOON: SUPERSONIC FLIGHTS ARE BACK.
The FAA has proposed a new rule that would allow civil supersonic flights over the continental United States. By utilizing "boomless cruise" technology, next-generation aircraft could travel at speeds above Mach 1 without disruptive sonic booms reaching the ground.
“Advances in aerospace engineering, materials science, noise reduction, and new operational concepts will eliminate the old sonic boom,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford.
The FAA aims to finalize the new regulations by mid-2027.
