We are thrilled to welcome UC Berkeley’s @UyangaByambaa, who will be helping @thegiftofchess to develop evidenced based research, supporting our goal of distributing 1 million chess sets globally by 2030, proving what we already know — that chess has the ability to impact lives.
We at @thegiftofchess call her the Iron Lady but her name is @PhylisNgigi and she has lead the entire distribution of our chess sets across East Africa (not a small task). This weekend she organized a 7 round G/60 FIDE rated tournament in Kiambu, Kenya with over 400 players from Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The pictures speak for themselves. This is what chess in Africa looks like. This is what opportunity looks like. 1/
Chess is a simple tool that can ignite opportunity for all. It’s universally played & benchmarked, it’s low cost , develops critical thinking, rewards hard work, has incredible transferable skills & is equal/open to all! That is why we are donating 1 million chess sets globally.
