You may think uko Congo but this is 23km from Nairobi CBD and 7km from the expressway. However, the booming affordable housing govt initiative has increased material demand thus deplorable roads. Katani residents are abandoning their homes due to deplorable roads. @WorldBankKenya

Residents of Katani in Syokimau blocked access to feeder roads in the area which are being heavily damaged by trucks. These trucks have been rerouting there due to the poor state of the main tarmac road which is beyond repair.

In response, on Thursday morning, truck drivers initiated a go-slow, demanding that the Machakos County government repair their designated roads to prevent further inconvenience to other motorists.

Angry locals in Katani took matters into their own hands on Wednesday and blocked access to feeder roads heavily damaged by trucks diverting there after irreparably damaging the main substandard tarmac road.

“Machakos County collects millions daily from the quarries but they allow these trucks use our roads, maintained by us. We even raise money to try make the roads but are destroyed immediately,” one of the angry residents said.

We cannot go to work, our children cannot go to school, sometimes even accessing social amenities is so difficult and yet Katani Road is an important link road. We have been swimming, now we are in the deep end.
