❌ The proposed Tourist Tax is a bad policy which the hospitality industry wholeheartedly opposes. The Government need to have a serious rethink about introducing it. #StopTheHolidayTax 👇

It was great to welcome members from parties across the House yesterday to the drop-in that I hosted with @UKHofficial.
Many of the attending MPs made their views clear that we must #StopTheHolidayTax to protect our hospitality industry🏖️🏨🍻

'Oxford Economics say this holiday tax would cost 33,000 people their jobs...'
Allen Simpson of Hospitality UK discusses opposition to Government plans for a holiday tax, with many voters claiming they would punish their MPs if the tax was implemented.
Did a staycation help you unwind this Easter bank holiday? Your future breaks could be more expensive due to the Government’s proposed holiday tax.

Thank you @amgsharpe for asking about the impact of the Government's proposed holiday tax.
“According to the @wef travel and tourism development index, the UK currently ranks 113th for price competitiveness.”
A holiday tax will make staycations in England more expensive.
Thank you @Mark_J_Harper for raising how the proposed holiday tax contradicts the Government mission to reduce the cost of living crisis.
Increasing the cost of a family holiday doesn't help the cost of living.
This is the wrong policy at the worst time. The Government needs to #StopTheHolidayTax.
@EmmaLewell is quite right here, this is a tax which will hit British families hard - as much as £1.6bn extra taxes by 2030 according to new @UKHofficial research and taking VAT on hotels to 27%. This cannot be the way to prioritise tackling the cost of living
Once, Rachel Reeves dismissed fears that her tax rises would have quite a big impact on jobs. Hope these warnings are taken more seriously in HM Treasury now.
Thank you @Ashley7Fox for highlighting hospitality as the most accessible route to work.
Your first job is your first step.
Many people’s first job is in hospitality – hospitality is the answer to increasing youth employment.
When hospitality thrives it drives economic growth. When the sector is taxed too heavily, prices & inflation rise and jobs & growth are cut. This is why support for the sector is vital to tackling cost of living and unlocking investment in people & place https://t.co/dx9aPlshwt
I spent 2 nights in a hotel this week for work - I’m already paying 20% in VAT and now govt is proposing another tax with additional VAT on top. The £22.40 additional tax adds to cost of living. No new taxes #cutvat https://t.co/IPoxyRfbth
If the Government wants everyone to be able to afford a holiday, it should scrap its planned holiday tax.
"Plans to introduce a holiday tax will put that even further out of reach for the regular family," our Chair @UKHospKate told @TheSun.

We already pay the highest VAT on hospitality and tourism - and visitors even pay vat on top of a visitor levy, so this is a triple whammy of tax. The starting point should be lowering VAT on accommodation and eating out - as we had during the pandemic.
@McWhirterAlex@UKHospKate VAT on accommodation in Spain is only 10%, so even with this level of visitor tax which is intended to put off visitors, today many visitors to London are already paying more tax in the UK. #StopTheHolidayTax
Stop The Holiday Tax! Keep holidays relaxing - not taxing. The Government wants to introduce a new tax on holidays in England that will make your staycation more expensive. Join the campaign: https://t.co/Tw2MBDgVD2 #StopTheHolidayTax#KeepHolidaysRelaxing
@clarkaw I think being an MP is already a pretty mediocre job. Paid less than a provincial accountant; no job security; subject to endless abuse. And such an important job. If we want high quality MPs we have to treat them with respect and fair reward. Now you want to close their bars.
