She shakes her head vigorously. "But what about unwinding? You know, just chilling in front of the tube? Family time??"
Her voice is going all squeaky and she's pretty sure she looks crazy by the way he's looking at her, but she can't help it. She's that shocked.
"Really? Not having a television is horrific?" He looks puzzled at this conclusion. Not having one was probably the least horrific during his childhood. He didn't know any better.
"Why? I had studies to do and such. Distractions were..." He looks did a word. "Unacceptable."
"I, uh, don't think they're all demons. Are they? Man, that makes my whole childhood questionable!"
She thought for a moment.
"What do you mean you didn't have a tv when you were a kid?! That's horrible!"
"I wasn't a fan as a child, period. We had no television whilst I was growing up. Father thought it was frivolous nonsense. I found out about those Demon Muppets during Christmas with Cordelia and Gunn. The horror."
She blinked, surprised. "Um, yeah. It ripped up one of my favorite shirts."
She pauses to study him.
"I'm gonna take a guess that you weren't a Sesame Street fan as a kid, huh?"
"No!" she laughs now. "It was big, blue & fuzzy. I don't remember what Giles called it. Sorta looked like a muppet with teeth & claws."
Still smiling slightly she shook her head.
"It had a really squeaky roar, too. It almost sliced me when I got distracted by it's squeakiness."
He pales and visibly shudders at the idea of falling into a pool. He focuses on something else instead, the smile in her eyes and in her face. "What were you fighting? Summer heat?"
She giggles again, shaking her head. "Oh, I suddenly remembered when I learned firsthand what 'flail' meant. I fell in a pool with my clothes and boots on, while fighting. Trying to get out was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Everyone had big laughs while watching me."
"Well,I may not have been as popular as Cordelia, but I'm way prettier. Or at least just as pretty!" She stomps her foot.
"And I might not be as smart as you, but I'm not dumb. I'd have had really good grades if I hadn't had to spend so much time saving the world!"
"I do not.." She has a sudden mental picture of the time she fell in that pool fighting that blue fuzzy demon and was trying to swim with her boots on.
Her face heats even more before a giggle escapes.
"Wow. That's bad."
"I wasn't trying to say that you haven't been or anything! Or that I think you haven't! I'm sure you have been, especially since I've been coming up to visit, not that you weren't before... um..."
"Um, yes. That's putting it mildly for sure." She glances around before whispering, "I actually sometimes miss it. The direct and honest thing. At least I always knew where I stood with her."
