A friend (a Gamekeeper) and I were discussing how Defender drivers wave at each other, to which he said, "I hate that, they wave at me thinking I'm an enthusiast, I'm not, I hate the bloody thing but I'm paid to drive it. I'm just being polite by waving back!".😂
One of the things I find most galling about raptor persecution is the way it threatens to eclipse the extraordinary efforts of gamekeepers I’ve met to ensure a future for some of our most endangered birds, from the capercaillie to the turtledove
@_SimonReinhold I am not adverse to moving away from lead shot, however, only when we have a suitable alternative. You state those looking at the next 30 years, do you think steel shot will weaken the anti's argument or is this about making game a more saleable product?
Boris Johnson has announced we're going to build build build. Why then are many farmers composting wool this year due to it being worthless? As the best insulator on the planet & completely renewable, why aren't we using it? Maybe legislation needs to catch up with science.
@wildforest_matt Tradition and formality on this island is admired all over the world with an often overlooked value. Where would we be without rules, formality and etiquette. Keep the Tweed, it has heritage that far outweighs the opinion of a few. Majority couldn't care less what people wear.
@AdamHartScience But look at the comments to the tweet. The uninformed being led zombie like to assist in speeding up the demise of some of the most amazing species in the planet. Of course there will be one or two specimens in zoos to allow them to look at and say we were just that bit late....
What’s the bloody point in engaging with any Scottish government review when they make the decision before the review is published?
They did it with salmon and now they’ve done it with mountain hares.
It’s an appalling and underhand way to operate.

Dr Colin Shedden, BASC’s director in Scotland, said: “In voting for this amendment, some members of the Scottish Parliament have effectively ignored the positive association between grouse moor management and mountain hare conservation."
@wildforest_matt I wish I was surprised. A case of "feelings don't care about your facts".😥 A sad day for democracy and the Mountain Hare itself. Does not bode well.
“The views of the rural working people of the land have been ignored, here. The system has failed them. We have been in discussions for some months about a party for rural Scotland and the possibility of fielding candidates in list seats."
Brand new hare science -
"Across all regions, the area occupied by mountain hare was greater on estates practicing driven grouse shooting"

Disregarding the topic of wolves the problem with much of the discussion around the future of the Highlands is that’s it’s being done by people who don’t live here, and as evidenced by this tweet, haven’t got a clue.
Scotland Fix of the Day: Looking over to Rum from Laig Bay on the Isle of Eigg. Black basalt sand washing down from the island’s volcanic core drifts and sifts across the white shell sand beach. Rum itself always seems to brew up sinister clouds that swi… https://t.co/gMWu5iHdp1
The colonizer mindset in action.
I'm not fundamentally hostile to wolves and lynx, but I am completely hostile to being told me and my community don't exist.
