The British Youth Council (BYC) ran the National Youth Council for the UK until its closure in March 2024. NYA is now working to restore the institution to become an independent, young people-led charity. 

We’ve designed a comprehensive consultation exercise to gather the views of stakeholders on the value and future of a National Youth Council, the Young Ambassador programme and the role of youth voice and influence in the political infrastructure, which will include a mix of focus groups with young people, group discussions and interviews with key stakeholders.

As part of the consultation, we are also running a public survey to gather views on the future of the UK’s National Youth Council. Please take the time to complete the survey, which should take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.

Written for practitioners and those commissioning interventions for young people within schools, academy trusts and colleges, it explains how youth workers provide additional capacity and expertise for addressing many of the complex issues young people are facing, drawing upon examples of effective partnership working.

Launched today, the Workforce Survey supports the NYA to develop a clear picture of the skills and capacity of the youth work sector. 

As the sector gears itself up for the opportunities that will be presented through a new National Youth Strategy, the findings of the Workforce Survey, together with our National Youth Sector Census, will help inform government, policy makers and funders of the investment, infrastructure and support needed to create a youth sector which is fit for purpose.
