This gr4 student thinks ALL classrooms need a work bench. What do you think @katebuilds ?? She designed and built from scratch. Thank you for inspiring young girls with what you do! #BUILDWOMENUP#inquirymindset@trev_mackenzie
@GillianBerard shares tips for empowering Ss through student-led conferences. I especially like "Let students make mistakes" - so important to the learning process!

"With student-led conferences, families hear how their child is progressing, more than any number or letter could tell them. They become a part of the process, learning about their child’s interests and passions." @GillianBerard#tg2chat https://t.co/KPaSFQYXax
Framing the curriculum using Essential Questions has two benefits: 1) Focusing the content on the most important ideas & processes, and 2) Engaging learners in actively "making meaning" of that content. Join me to explore the use of EQs in a 2-hour webinar on April 28.
NEW POST!!! @GillianBerard explains how student-led conferences are a powerful means to shift classroom culture, allowing students to share their learning, interests, and passions with peers, teachers, families, and the wider community. #tg2chat https://t.co/EFZ9FrrnZ7
What are the assessment implications for a competency-based education system? Hear my response to this important question in a 2-minute video produced by the Michigan Assessment Consortium. https://t.co/YVcjhSWuiB
"Student learning journeys are as individualized as fingerprints. Letter grades do not capture this journey; they rank and sort students by measuring the immeasurable—learning. If you want to know what student’s know, ask them.”

A humble suggestion:
If we want inquiry for our students, we must embody inquiry ourselves.
Inquiry is not a checklist nor is it a series of predesigned tasks.
Inquiry is a stance. It requires continues reflection, agility, and ongoing development. We are never quite there 1/
#ELMAgChat Shouldn’t a fundamental goal of education be the development of self-directed learning whereby learners become increasingly able to accurately self-assess, rather than having to wait for a teacher’s grade to tell them how they have done?
@Catlin_Tucker How are we assessing critical thinking competencies? How are we teaching students to self assess their critical thinking skills? How are we explicitly teaching what critical thinking acctually is?
Let’s not overlook simply asking Ss, “What are you interested in learning about?” & embed the curriculum accordingly. A simple question that can go a long way. A must listen @trev_mackenzie @kjinquiry @inquiryfive #inquirybythefire https://t.co/592i9GxmLb
@trev_mackenzie @kjinquiry @inquiryfive How can we use this time as an opportunity for experiential learning outside the classroom and model inquiry/curiosity?Using tech as a tool to connect us & share deep learning, not just a way to send ‘stuff’ to complete. Can’t wait to listen!
