Pictured here is the (small) Athenian church of Saint John the Theologian was built around the end of the 11th century or the beginning of the 12th century in Plaka. We know this because construction workers left a bronze coin of Alexios I Komnenos (1081-1118) on its roof! 🧿<3

A Greek-Jewish couple sits at an outdoor cafe while on their honeymoon in Athens. Their names are Leon and Esther Matsas (1929) ❤️‍🔥

Two women (tourists) stand infront of the Holy Church of Panagia Gorgoepikou in Athens. The photograph was taken back in 1924. This unique monument was completely built using ancient stones from earlier buildings, ranging from classical Antiquity to the 12th—13th century. ❤️‍🔥

Panagia Kapnikarea back in 1968! This beautiful Byzantine church is located on Ermou Street in Athens. It was built during 1050’s on top of an ancient Greek temple dedicated to the worship of a goddess, possibly Athena or Demeter. It's one of the oldest churches in Athens. ↓
