(she/her) Physics teacher & Yr5 #StrathEdD student researching female secondary school students experiences of stereotyping in physics. All views my own.
@KHair_BusEd@kirsteenlang@StrathEDU It's shifting slightly, but it's definitely nowhere near enough. It seems to only be the girls that are considered "smart enough" to do it and it's not as widely encouraged as it is for boys
Such a great experience presenting at @StrathEDU doctoral showcase again this morning, but this time on the progress of my own research! Thanks again to all those that came along, listened to my presentation and asked questions ๐คฉ #StrathEdD
@KHair_BusEd@kirsteenlang@StrathEDU Thank you! The only time I actually do use it is to separate out participants, I feel like it helps me keep the focus on individuals! That's actually something that's cropping up a lot in my data (my research makes me so angry sometimes that I need to take several steps back๐)
@KHair_BusEd@kirsteenlang@StrathEDU Oh, the imposter syndrome is definitely strong here!! I still feel like the EdD programme is going to figure out that they made a mistake letting me in and take it all away๐ you absolutely should apply, you won't regret it!

An action-packed first day in Bormio. Topping it all off with a quiz from resident quizmaster Mr MacDonald before we're back at it again tomorrow! โท๏ธ๐ @Greenwood_Acad@GearupGreenwood@JenTorbit
One last workshop on spectroscopy and a lecture from Prof Sarah Croke on the hype vs. reality of quantum computing to finish off the day. We had a great 2 days at #QTSStrath2024 and I can't wait to come back again next year with some more pupils!
Back at it again! Started off day 2 of #QTSStrath2024 with a talk from Dr Adetunmise Dada on quantum key distribution and exploiting the "weirdness" of the quantum world. Next, we were off on a tour of @PhysicsStrath SCAPA laser labs.

After lunch, pupils attended a grad student panel to discuss life after university with a physics degree and I went off to play with the electron microscope!
#QTSStrath2024
A great afternoon too! Pupils went off to an undergraduate panel to find out more about student life at @UniStrathclyde after lunch and then onto a workshop on polarisation and 3D imaging and a lecture on how to think like a physicist from Dr Peter Sneddon
A great morning at #QTSStrath2024. Started off with a presentation from Prof Paul Griffin on quantum technologies and then moved onto a workshop on encoding and decoding ciphers for security๐จโ๐ป๐ฉโ๐ป
