Our results are the first showing that already at 12 months old, children used the gender features encoded in determiners as a cue for comprehension.

Results showed that children aged 20 months were able to identify the target picture in both conditions: they were faster when the articles were informative. Interestingly, the 12-month-old group was able to recognize the target only when the article was informative
