“Voluntary exchange guarantees mutual benefit” only works if both parties can freely walk away. In reality, most work is accepted under material coercion... rent, food, survival. A choice made under necessity isn’t evidence of shared benefit, it’s evidence of no alternative.
People who don't understand this are primitive.
Living should be a given. Civilization has been capable of providing that for decades, and civilized people demand nothing less.
It seems like most things humans need to function are now considered radical. Rest is radical. Not wanting to get sick is radical. Wanting to work less hours and be able to afford a house is radical. Even stating you don’t want people to die is radical. This isn't sustainable.
@ciorancore È il solito metodo cialtrone: rendi inaccessibile il servizio pubblico per poter poi latrare pubblico brutto inefficiente privatizzzzziamo!
The notion that jobs are the only marker of contributing to society belongs in history's dustbin. Imagine a society where caretaking and exploration are as valued. That's the potential of universal basic income - it liberates us from the 9-5 model to pursue what truly matters.
Someone should quantify the opportunity cost of working jobs you don't want because you have to, when you do want to do something else that's productive.
Maybe people would understand the problem of "bullshit jobs" if it were framed this way.
Unconditional Basic Income is about far more than money. It's about what money buys and makes possible. It's about freedom; the freedom to innovate, to take risks, to breathe unencumbered by survival stress. Its about dignity; the dignity of agency and making your own decisions.
Myth: UBI will induce laziness.
Fact: Survival-driven work leads to burnout, whereas self-motivated work generates its own momentum.
UBI allows individuals to pursue work that aligns with their values, potentially reducing 'laziness' and boosting overall well-being.
People, please. Stop listening to those promoting the fantasy that we can regeneratively farm animals for 8 billion humans (we can’t), or that we just need to live like we did in 1800 (again, we can’t).
We are out of time for this nonsense and like it or not, it’s vegan or bust.
It’s really too bad because we could have built a world where we work a little bit but mostly just hang out and have a good time but instead we got this shithole
Work work work work, that's all so many claim to care about, and yet a large percentage of work is entirely unnecessary and even destructive, while really important work that people would do for free if they could, goes undone.
Universal Basic Income will rebalance those scales.
The more we work, the poorer we get.
The poorer we get, the more work governments demand.
Until we acknowledge the difference between wealth-creating, relevant work and wealth-destroying #bullshitjobs.
We don't lack the money to fund #basicincome. There's as much money as we want.
We lack the resources, energy and fossil fuels - the actual wealth and purchasing power - wasted by 3,000,000,000+ #bullshitjobs. Fighting over money.
But millions of "economists" don't understand this. They got conditioned to worship abstract numbers, while neglecting actual wealth.
But here is the thing. The collapse of our biosphere will force us to ditch billions of #bullshitjobs. Which will free-up an unfathomable amount of resources, energy and fossil fuels. As we are no longer going to commute to skyscrapers full of nonsense. As we are no longer going to maintain all the infrastructure that only exists to facilitate net loss financial warfare.
We will be working less and end up magnitudes wealthier.
Billions of people are about to realize just how insane contemporary politicians and "economists" truly are. How insane it was to celebrate billions of economically unnecessary jobs. Just to end up with a lot of numbers, very little wealth and a devastated planet.
90%+ of our jobs are economically unnecessary.
We have to ditch them. Urgently.
But almost every human being seems to feature a belief system that prevents them from acknowledging it.
"But we lack of numbers!!!!"
"But that's communism!!1!"
"Efficiency and laziness is bad!1!!!"
