The #GlassCliff is when senior women are brought in to fix huge structural/systemic issues. Even if they succeed many are still fired - often by unaccountable boards. Progress can’t be made if women are hired when all is lost & fired when all is fixed.
Women are often only given leadership roles when things are going badly. Even when they succeed many are fired-often by unaccountable boards. We must investigate the role of bullying boards who blame women CEOs for the mess the boards created before the woman CEO arrived.

@ClareAliceMurph@shellkryan@LowyInstitute Watch out for #GlassCliff when senior women are hired to fix structural/systemic issues often in toxic environments. Indeed women are often only given leadership roles when things are going badly. Even when they succeed many are fired-often by unaccountable unprofessional boards

@DrDemography We did an analysis of UK seats and we found that in the conservative party women were more likely to contest marginal seats - we dubbed this the political glass cliff (the same is the case of individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds).

A couple of yrs ago I shared this concept w/ a sr leader. I'm pretty sure they didn't read the article, bc the phenomenon I warned them abt ended up happening. The glass cliff is real, and #WOC are often casualties. @GlassCliff1

Success, hard work and leadeship are seen as male. Women require a whole set of hidden skills to overcome these stereotypes on a daily basis. Exhausting.
Well said @NOIweala “Women face a glass cliff: they are given leadership roles only when things are going really badly.” But we know that Ngozi is by far best candidate for DG @WTO, with huge experience & a highly skilled & respected leader https://t.co/6O26EK4qz3
Psychologists like to call this phenomenon the “glass cliff”—the idea that women are more likely to be elevated to executive leadership roles in periods of crisis, when they’re more likely to fail. https://t.co/sLm25snqGA
Great article where @loriadelman talks about toxic workplaces in international feminist organizations. We need transparent governance plus accountable & professional boards in this sector. https://t.co/iFQGZj6LwX
