El Comité del Patrimonio Mundial ha concluido su 48.ª reunión en Busan, República de Corea, con la incorporación de 25 nuevos sitios a la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO. Todas las inscripciones se han aprobado por consenso, lo que refleja el espíritu de cooperación que fundamenta la Convención del Patrimonio Mundial de 1972.

En esta reunión, tres países africanos han inscrito su primer bien en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO —Comoras, Santo Tomé y Príncipe, y Sudán del Sur— una muestra del compromiso de la Organización con una Lista más equilibrada y representativa. El Comité también ha añadido seis sitios a la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial en Peligro, un reconocimiento tanto del valor de dichos sitios como de la necesidad de protegerlos.
