Underneath John Sexsmith's jovial demeanour was a steely resolve to give 110% in his fight against prostate cancer.
For over a decade he won countless battles, but on Friday, succumbed to the disease.
John was just 63.

There is no risk to the public or community at this time as the fire is contained.

Background:
- Approximately 8:30 a.m. today Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a fire in the west end of Sherwood Park.
- No injuries have been reported, and crews remain on scene.
- Edmonton Police Service has closed 34 Street between Sherwood Park Freeway and Baseline Road.
There is still no threat to the public; however, some areas of the County may be smoky. Here are some tips:
- Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. - Reduce outdoor activity. - Close air conditioners, vents and fresh-air intakes.
- Make sure your furnace fan isn’t running. - Bring pets inside.
