THE END OF THE JURY?
"English liberty did not emerge from trust in efficient government. It emerged from distrust of power. The jury remains one of the last institutional expressions of that distrust" – explains @bepipezzulli on the Global Britain blog

Parliamentary sketch: Zippy at the despatch box
"What Keir lacks in voice he makes up for with volume and lists. The man speaks in bullet points when riled. Which is as disconcerting as meeting Zippy from Rainbow when he’s raging" ...writes Gail MacDonald https://t.co/9SgJRxaaja
The Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee has recommended against the Right to Recovery Bill despite the Parliament’s own consultation showing that almost 80 per cent of respondents supported it.
We always knew this would be an uphill fight. But let’s be clear: if MSPs are serious about rights, then they should back enforceable rights. Not vague aspirations. Not hollow promises. Rights that people can actually use.
If they are so confident in the system they champion, then let them put their money where their mouth is: mandate those rights in law, or at the very least embed them in binding guidance. Otherwise, it is smoke and mirrors.
The truth is, this Bill was never going to pass through committee. The make-up of that committee, and the witnesses chosen, predetermined the outcome. But the fight was always about exposing that reality and keeping the pressure on for genuine, accessible rights to recovery.

BREXIT DAY BENEFIT BONANZA
The UK banned testing cosmetics on animals in 1996, but EU laws introduced in 2006 made it *mandatory* to test new cosmetic ingredients on animals - despite contradictory EU laws banning it as well. Brexit allowed the UK to fix the conflicting laws.
HAPPY BREXIT DAY
On 23rd June, 9 years ago ,the British people came out in their droves to take back control of their country from a distant, belligerent, bureaucratic and idiotic European Union.
From 8am I'll be posting a Brexit benefit every hour.
Thanks Brexit!
