Reframing the narrative on #FGM can feel complex, deeply personal, and at times difficult to navigate.
We understand this because, as a programme, we have been on this journey since 2023 alongside survivors, activists, and movement leaders who continue to challenge harmful and limiting narratives.
Through this process, we have developed resources with survivors of FGM to support front-line activists in understanding why reframing the narrative is both necessary and transformative.
As you engage in this work, know that you are not alone. Naming FGM for what it is: #ViolenceAgainstChildren, #ChildAbuse, and a violation of the human rights of girls and women globally, can feel uncomfortable in spaces where narratives have long been shaped by stigma, politics, or external perspectives. Yet, honest and survivor-centered language is essential in advancing justice, accountability, and meaningful change.
We hope these resources offer guidance, reassurance, and solidarity as you continue leading conversations that centre dignity, truth, and the voices of survivors.
At #WD2026, we co-hosted a session on dismantling racism in anti-FGM/C movements. We shared findings from our new position paper and explored how racism and power imbalances impact survivors, leadership, and advocacy.
🤝Thank you to our speakers and attendees!
#wd2026 In her opening remarks at #EndFGM Pre-conference, Valerie Lolomari, MBE of @womenofgraceuk, said, "Behind every statistic is a person. Behind every conversation is a life shaped by experience.
And yet, survivors are spoken about more than they are listened to. Their stories are shared, but not always valued.
Survivors are not an addition to this movement; they are the movement. If we are to move forward with integrity, we must be intentional. Intentional about creating spaces where survivors can speak without fear or judgment.
This way, the movement becomes more honest, more grounded, and ultimately more powerful.” #EndFGM @FGMIsViolence

We were honoured to have Ms.Kemi Williams from the @FCDOGovUK@WomenDeliver during #EndFGM Pre-conference, and reflect on the work of the programme.
She spoke to the heart of what this work represents, highlighting the grants mechanism, survivor-led trainings and initiatives, meaningful community engagement, and the Model Health Facility approach in Kenya. A grounded reminder that lasting change is built through sustained, survivor-led community-led efforts.
The UK recognizes #FGM as a form of violence and remains committed to ending this form of gender-based violence globally. #WD2026 #EndFGM #FGMIsViolence
