One of football's longest-running doping cases has finally come to an end.

Mudryk returns after 603 days not because the original rules disappeared, but because evolving WADA guidance, the low concentration detected, and a settlement between parties brought the case to a close.

According to The Athletic, Mudryk is now expected to report for Chelsea's pre-season in Hong Kong.

Mudryk's sample fell below that new reporting threshold.

The new guidance (TD2027MRL) introduced a minimum reporting level for meldonium.

In simple terms:

If an athlete's sample today contains only a very small amount, laboratories do not report it as a positive test.

While the appeal was ongoing...

WADA changed its technical guidance on meldonium.

That update became crucial.

An Independent FA Regulatory Commission eventually imposed the maximum four-year ban.

And appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

On 4 December 2024, the FA provisionally suspended Mudryk.
He was later charged with:
• Presence of a prohibited substance.
• Use(or attempted use)of a prohibited substance.

The story began in November 2024.

Mudryk provided an out-of-competition sample...

It contained a very low concentration of meldonium, a substance that was on WADA's prohibited list at the time.

According to Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Mudryk is expected to join Chelsea's pre-season camp in Hong Kong ahead of the 2026/27 season.

His immediate role under Xabi Alonso remains unclear.
