We really enjoyed Ubud. Some complain that the Starbucks and other retail shops make this small village feel less authentic.

But it doesn’t take much effort to look beyond that to find many quiet spots and local experiences to enjoy.

It’s huge. The heat is oppressive. Beeping motorbikes, a cacophony of smells.

Thursday is Balinese New Year and we are required by law to stay in the hotel with the curtains drawn so the evil spirits assume the island is deserted and pass over it.

I don't want to mess with demons and evil spirits, so looks like Thursday will be a quiet night for us! 😨

Travel Tip:
If someone doesn't speak English very well, getting frustrated and being rude to them isn't going to make them magically learn it.

Find another way to communicate, or ask someone else.
