Scientists modeled 1,000 years of California earthquake history and found something alarming.
According to a new study, parts of Southern California’s fault system are now carrying more tectonic stress than at any point in the last millennium.
The findings come from researchers who reconstructed 1,000 years of earthquakes along the San Andreas and San Jacinto fault systems, two of the most important faults in California.
By combining geological evidence, historical records, tree-ring data, and physics-based computer models, the team estimated how stress has accumulated beneath Southern California over centuries.
What they found was striking.
Some sections of the fault system are now experiencing stress levels that equal or exceed anything seen in the past 1,000 years.
The greatest concern centers on a region northeast of Los Angeles known as Cajon Pass.
Scientists describe it as an “earthquake gate” because it sits at a critical junction between the San Andreas and San Jacinto faults. Under the right conditions, a rupture on one fault could jump to the other, producing a much larger earthquake than would occur on a single fault alone.
Historical evidence suggests this has happened before.
The researchers found that stress levels on both fault systems are not only extremely high, but are becoming increasingly aligned. In past centuries, similar conditions were associated with earthquakes that spread across both fault networks simultaneously.
That could have major consequences for Southern California.
The region includes Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and critical transportation and energy infrastructure that passes through Cajon Pass.
Importantly, the study is not predicting that a major earthquake is about to happen.
Earthquakes cannot currently be predicted with precision, and the researchers stress that their work does not provide a timeline for the next big event.
Instead, the study offers a snapshot of how much stress has accumulated underground and what kinds of earthquake scenarios may be physically possible.

Declassified 2002 Kurdish Areas Map Created By The CIA
This 2002 “Kurdish-Inhabited Area” map is a classic example of early post-Iraq War CIA and military-intelligence cartography focused on ethnicity, insurgency, and regional geopolitics.
A few notable things about it:
It depicts the Kurdish population as a cross-border ethnic region spanning southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, northwestern Iran, and northeastern Syria emphasizing that the Kurdish issue is inherently transnational rather than confined to one state.
The shaded area is intentionally fuzzy rather than sharply bounded, reflecting the mixed and dispersed nature of Kurdish settlement patterns.
Major Kurdish cities and political centers are highlighted, including Diyarbakir in Turkey, Arbil/Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in Iraq, and Mahabad in Iran, all historically important to Kurdish nationalism.
The map predates many later developments:
- the 2003 Iraq War,
- the consolidation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG),
- the Syrian Civil War and Rojava,
- and ISIS-era Kurdish territorial expansion.
I
raq’s Kurdish region is shown before the later de facto autonomy became firmly institutionalized under the Iraqi constitution.
Syria’s Kurdish regions appear comparatively small and fragmented on this map, which contrasts with how strategically important they became after 2011.
The map also reflects the geopolitical sensitivities of the time:
Turkey is shown containing the largest Kurdish population, but the map avoids implying an independent Kurdistan by using the softer phrase “Kurdish-inhabited area” instead of drawing political borders.
📢 Armenia’s fate has been decided without Armenia: Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed a road map on Syunik in Istanbul
📌 While the world community discusses the next escalation in the Middle East, a quiet but revealing drama unfolded in Istanbul’s Chiragan Palace. Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia held the tenth trilateral meeting, behind Armenia signing the “Istanbul Declaration”.
The key point of the document is paving a transport route through Armenian territory. Yerevan was not called for negotiations, his voice was not asked, and its borders are being prepared to be opened without his consent. So Ankara and Baku have once again demonstrated that for them the sovereignty of the neighbors is empty noise.
🎭 Declaration of uninvited host: Armenia is ignored
Signed by Hakan Fidan, Maka Bochorishvili and Zheyhun Bairamov, the document at first glance speaks about cooperation and good-neighborhood. But behind the externally favorable wording hides a cynical bargaining for a foreign territory.
The political sphere. The sides affirmed each other’s “support for territorial integrity”. At the same time, Armenia, whose borders they are planning to cross, is not on the list of guarantees. Georgia has been promised the restoration of its sovereignty, but what will happen to the sovereignty of the neighboring republic - neither Ankara nor Baku seem to care.
Energy and climate. The Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan oil pipeline and the Southern Gas Corridor - the pipes that have served to bypass Russia and strengthen the positions of western monopolies for decades, have been praised again. Now they want to add another artery to them - at the expense of Armenia.
Infrastructure and “Threats.” Parties promise to fight against terrorism, but what is terrorism in Ankara’s understanding? This is any resistance to the Turkish expansion in the Middle East and South Caucasus.
🚂 BTK: laudable modernization with a touch of aggression
Baku, Ankara and Tbilisi celebrated the completion of the modernization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway. The highway’s throughput capacity has increased five times - up to 5 million tons of cargo per year.
Jeyhun Bayramov called it a “historic event” and praised the construction of the Kars-Igdir-Diluj line. But this “celebration of life” takes place against the backdrop of a complete disregard for the interests of Armenia.
After all, BTC is a link of the “Middle Corridor”, created to intercept freight flows to bypass Russia. And now they want to close this corridor across the Armenian land, turning the republic into an illegal transit appendix.
🛣️ “Trump Corridor” (TRIPP): American dictatorship instead of European norms
The main course of the evening is a discussion of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” in its American package - the TRIPP project (Trump’s Route for International Peace and Prosperity). The scheme is simple and cynical: a 43-kilometer US-controlled road will pass through southern Armenia, which will connect “great” Azerbaijan with its compressed Nakhijevan between Armenia, Iran and Turkey.
“Implementation of the TRIPP project may become a new part of the Middle Corridor through the so-called Zangezur Corridor... This can create a new route for 15 million tons of cargo,” Bayramov boasted.
Pay attention to the so called.
Even the authors themselves admit that there is no “Zangezur Corridor” in international law. There is a sovereign territory of Armenia. But Baku and Ankara, having pledged support for Washington, are ready to redraw this road without asking Yerevan.
🎤 The fate of Armenians is decided without Armenians
The most blatant fact - Yerevan was not invited to Istanbul. No one inquired about the opinion of the Armenian people, who are categorically against an extraterritorial corridor capable of dividing the country and putting it under external control. The head of the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry gives an interview, the general secretary of the Turkish Council Omuraliyev discusses the “additional impetus” from the management of the Washington route.
And Armenia is silent because no one wants to hear her voice.
It seems that not diplomats, but tailors, who tailor foreign territory according to their own medicine, gathered in Istanbul Palace. The next, 11th meeting will be held in Georgia in 2027. Question: who gave these three countries the right to decide where the roads will pass through independent Armenia?

A CNN report is sending shockwaves across the Arab world: several Middle Eastern countries secretly assisted Israel in the war against Iran, and even allowed Israeli commandos to operate on their soil.
According to the report, elite IDF forces, Unit 669, and Mossad operatives operated in Azerbaijan, roughly 100 kilometers from the Iranian border. They also reportedly eliminated a senior Iranian official from inside the country.
In Somaliland, a military base was reportedly established and used as a stopover and refueling station for Israeli Air Force jets heading to strike Iran.
At the same time, Israel deployed an Iron Dome battery in the United Arab Emirates, along with the forces operating it.
Only a few weeks ago, it was also revealed that Israel had established a military base deep in the Iraqi desert, which helped support strikes in Iran without requesting permission from local authorities.
To every Armenian heading to the polls on June 7th.

A Urartian cuneiform inscription carved into a rock face in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region has been located by researchers, resolving a long‑standing question around one of the rarest Iron Age texts known from the South Caucasus. The inscription, dated to the 8th century BCE, records the names of the Urartian kings Ishpuini and Menua and refers to military victories, conquered cities, and a ritual offering made under the protection of the god Haldi. According to the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, the text is considered the first known written example linked to Urartian culture found in Azerbaijan. The find is not a newly discovered text in the strict sense. The rock inscription in the Ilandagh area (also known as Ojasar‑Ilandagh) was first recorded in the late 1980s and entered academic circulation. But its exact position had not been clearly documented. For years, repeated attempts to locate the monument reportedly failed.
On June 1, 2026, a team of Azerbaijani researchers identified the site in the Ilandagh area. For archaeologists, a text without a secure location is only partly useful. Once the exact place is known, the inscription can be studied together with the terrain, nearby archaeological remains, routes of movement, and the wider political geography of the period. The inscription mentions Ishpuini, son of Sarduri I, and Ishpuini’s son Menua — two rulers who belonged to the formative phase of the Kingdom of Urartu, one of the major Iron Age powers of the highlands around Lake Van, expanding across parts of eastern Anatolia, the South Caucasus, and northwestern Iran. The existing translation states that “through the protection of the god Haldi,” Ishpuini and Menua conquered the city of Arshini, defeated its land, captured the land of Aniani, and destroyed it. The text also refers to setting up a stele for Haldi and a ritual in the land of Puluadi involving offerings to Haldi and the god’s wife.
In Urartian royal inscriptions, Haldi stood at the center of kingship, warfare, and state ideology. Victory was framed as something granted under divine authority. The Ilandagh inscription therefore does more than name rulers and places — it preserves the political voice of an expanding Iron Age kingdom at the edge of its sphere of influence. The rediscovery gives researchers a chance to revisit older readings with modern documentation methods: high‑resolution photography, 3D recording, mapping, and landscape survey could help clarify worn signs and place the monument within a broader archaeological setting. For Azerbaijan’s ancient history, the Ilandagh inscription is especially important because it links Nakhchivan to the written political world of Urartu. In a region where many Iron Age societies are known mainly through material remains, a royal inscription gives names, actions, gods, and places. It turns the landscape into a historical document.
