The STEWARDS worked on interdisciplinary FEW Systems group projects, volunteered at Forested🌳, and learned about grant development, mentoring, writing for publication and writing collaboratively!📚
Over the weekend, the global stewards volunteered at the Lane Manor Park site for the annual Anastasia Watershed Society Earth Day Cleanup! Volunteers at this cleanup event helped to remove 42 bags of trash and 28 bags of recycle able cans/bottles and a shopping cart.

Recently, the global stewards visited the town of Emmitsburg, MD!
The group was able to learn about how they supply and treat their drinking water and toured the wastewater treatment plant.
We attended a social event at the residence of the Israeli ambassador, where we discussed the crucial topic of food-energy-water (FEW) Nexus. Exploring Kathmandu's Thamel area in our final day, we were fortunate to reconnect with the representative of Engineers Without Borders.
We had the incredible opportunity to witness the rich cultural exchange between Tibetan Buddhism and the West, particularly within the Kagyu school, as we visited the famed Shechen and Shedrup monasteries surrounding the Boudhanath stupa.
Highlight from day 6 include a visit to the Dhulikhel drinking water treatment plant and later explored Kathmandu University which allowed us to have a conversation with Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, a renowned Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
We had incredible experience visiting Dhulikhel Hospital. Dhulikhel hospital, established in 1996, has become a beacon of hope for over 2.5 million patients and generate 25% of it electricity from solar energy. We also toured the hospital's wastewater treatment plant.
We had the amazing opportunity to visit the Namobuddha municipality and met with the Mayor, Tanka Prasad Sharma. During our visit, we had the privilege of exploring Shree Janak Secondary School, the largest school in the area with over 1100 students.
Day 3 started at Sanskriti research farm, we had an amazing presentation by the farm manager, Shree Krishna Dhital. He shared his inspiring journey of transforming this land from a grassy field into a fruitful farm. We then got to explore the beautiful farm stay and plant trees.
Day 2 was filled with incredible sights and experiences. In Bhaktapur, we were mesmerized by the stunning towering temples that showcased the rich Newari culture. The hike at Sanga's suspension bridge offered breathtaking views of the landscapes and statue of Lord Shiva
The 2023 Global STEWARDS Winter Amp Travel Team arrived in Nepal on January 3rd. Day 1 of the incredible journey in Kathmandu was truly captivating! We had the opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of Nepal by visiting some awe-inspiring Hindu and Buddhist temples.
Meet our Fellow: Cate, a PhD student in her second year, focuses her research on analyzing the impacts of chemical mixtures on health risks. She identifies Silver Spring MD as her hometown. In her leisure time, she enjoys swimming.

Christina is a fourth year PhD candidate, she studies the genetics of strawberry with the aim to create more sustainable agricultural systems. Her hometown is Woodbury, Minnesota. She enjoys reading novels, poetry, and nonfiction outside of her academic work.
