1976: Operation Thunderbolt. A hijacked plane, 100+ hostages, 150 commandos, four C-130s, a 3,800 km flight and a black Mercedes - all in 53 minutes, one of the most daring special operations ever executed.
1/7 The Hijacking:
On June 27, 1976, Air France Flight 139, an Airbus A300, departed Tel Aviv for Paris with a scheduled stop in Athens. On board were 248 passengers and 12 crew. Shortly after leaving Athens, four armed hijackers seized the plane and diverted it south to Benghazi, Libya, for refueling - where a pregnant woman was released. From there, the hijackers forced the aircraft to fly to Entebbe, Uganda. At Entebbe, they were joined by three more hijackers and separated the passengers, eventually releasing 148 non-Israeli hostages while holding over 100 Israelis and Jews, along with the crew who refused to leave.
IDF Eliminates Hezbollah’s No. 2 in Precision Strike in Beirut - Operation "Black Friday"
On November 23, 2025, the IDF, guided by intelligence, carried out a precise airstrike in Al-Dahiya, south Beirut, likely executed by an Israeli Air Force F-35, F-15, or F-16, eliminating Haytham Ali Tabatabai, Hezbollah’s Chief of General Staff and effectively its number two. A veteran since the 1980s, he led the Radwan Force, oversaw Hezbollah’s operations in Syria, and later directed the group’s fighting during Operation Northern Arrows. His death marks a significant blow to Hezbollah’s military leadership and its efforts to rebuild and rearm.
