Our Annual Meeting is being held as part of the @uclg_org Retreat, where the following topics will be discussed:

➡️ Our Constituency towards the Multilateral Agenda
➡️ Key milestones & partnerships for 2026
➡️ Fostering Ecological Transformation

[United Cities @uclg_org]

📍@UNEP 12th Annual Subcommittee meeting

At the Official Opening, we delivered a statement on behalf of the Local Authorities Major Group, putting forward 10 concrete proposals for stronger local pathways.

🌍 Regional priorities require multilevel governance. And UNEP’s impact must be measured where people live and work.

Let’s move from consultation to co-creation, from participation to partnership, and from recognition to institutionalized multilevel governance.

[Global Taskforce @GlobalTaskforce]

As recalled at #COP17, #LRGs are 🔑 to achieve land restoration, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience & water security. Not only as implementers, but as co-creators.

🌏This is why climate is one of the 8 pillars of UCLG’s Local Social Covenant: https://t.co/qx0X03CBh4

🙌🙌 The Forum hosted by the City of Ulaanbaatar and co-organized by the UNCCD Secretariat, UN-Habitat, Local2030 Coalition @ICLEI , @uclg_org @GlobalTaskforce brought together 200 participants from 30 countries, including 5 commitments & recommendations.

“🏛️Participation must go beyond access. #LRGs should not simply be beneficiaries or implementers of an agenda designed elsewhere. They need to be partners in shaping it.

🌐This is also why the @GlobalTaskforce is important: it allows our constituency to bring together experiences and priorities from cities and regions across the world and bring them collectively into global policy processes such as the @UNCCD and the RAA.”

“🌲Land is at the center of our livelihoods, but land is beyond urban–land is also rural.

🌐#UNCCDCOP17 Mayors’ Forum is the center of the discussion because cities collect our people and are where our future grows. This Forum needs to show the world that UNCCD starts politically from the ground up.

🖋️There is understanding of responsibility at the local level, and that what is discussed on paper will also go down to the vulnerable people we are serving on the ground.”
