Trump's actions in Venezuela are the military-backed manifestation of fossil fuel-driven foreign policy, threatening global energy and climate security.

The lesson for all countries that rely on fossil fuel imports: it's time to accelerate the transition off oil and gas as fast as possible.

Even with the exclusion that still marks many official COP spaces, including COP30 in Belém, the mobilisation led by environmental defenders, Indigenous Peoples, and frontline communities across the city was impossible to miss.

A powerful example was COP do Povo (the People’s COP), hosted by the Grassroots Movement for Climate.

Curious about what that looked like in practice? Read the testimonies from defenders, volunteers, visitors, and community members who helped build COP do Povo.

The Lobito Corridor is intended to boost mineral transport from the DRC and Zambia to the Angolan port of Lobito. The project is backed by major international partners but questions remain about its implications for communities along the route.

Our new investigation reveals up to 6,500 people in Kolwezi, DRC, could be displaced by the EU-backed Lobito Corridor railway. Communities fear losing their homes as companies push ahead without proper protections.

A new Global Witness investigation has identified 40+ X accounts – many created in the same month – pushing claims that Dan Gertler had been “cleared” of corruption.

The claims stem from a private arbitration with no public evidence to support them.

Peaceful climate protest is being policed more heavily than far right activism – with environmental activists charged at three times the rate of nationalist agitators, according to new data we've obtained https://t.co/9zwMXldKye

Beneath the headlines lies a stark reality: the final agreement didn’t even mention “fossil fuels”, leaving the very industries driving the climate crisis off the hook.

BREAKING: Our new investigation reveals top chocolate brands like Mars, KitKat & Dairy Milk are at high risk of using cocoa grown on recently deforested Liberian rainforest.

This is why the #EUDR must enter into force NOW, not later. https://t.co/LAcUpiR8tH

🚨BREAKING: Our research shows #COP30 host Brazil has green-lighted *colossal* levels of dirty offshore oil + gas production.

Oil firms are set to invest over *$370 billion* in these assets this century.

From Brazil to the UK's North Sea we must resist. https://t.co/dmplbRsX6y

🔥 A 12% jump in fossil fuel lobbyists at COP compared to last year.

📍 Belém is seeing the highest concentration since records began.

The industry causing the crisis shouldn’t shape climate solutions.

🚨 NEW: Fossil fuel lobbyists are flooding COP30.

More than 1,600 lobbyists have been granted access to the climate talks - that’s 1 in every 25 attendees.

It’s time to protect climate negotiations from corporate capture.

COP30 is about to begin in Belém, a city in Brazil’s Amazon.

Over the next two weeks, 197 countries will negotiate and hopefully agree on actions to stop climate breakdown.

Global Witness will be there. Why? We want to be there to make sure polluters are out, and people are in.

We hope the voices of Indigenous Peoples, traditional communities, civil society and land and environmental defenders at this year’s COP will be loud and strong – and we are proud to help make that happen.

BREAKING: Shell + Equinor’s new North Sea oil firm, Adura, could mean a *£1.3 billion tax dodge* - enough to pay for 1 year’s worth of UK free school meals.

That's why we joined Uplift + Fossil Free London to tell the Chancellor to STOP the Adura tax dodge! https://t.co/H95DiMkfZD
