Robins are a common sight in gardens during the spring months, singing their distinctive song as they search for food and mates. They are a beautiful addition to any gardenscape at all times of the year. #wildlifeinthegarden#backyardbirds#grownative

Magnolias are another spring superstar we are currently enjoying around town! ๐ซ
These trees have beautiful form and big white, yellow, or pink blooms. Their mature height ranges from 6-60ft., depending on the species and cultivar. ๐
Daffodil appreciation post! These classic spring blooms have an abundance of charm and a variety of beautiful cultivars. Their brilliant shades of yellows can brighten even the chilliest of early spring mornings.
Red maple (๐๐ค๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฎ) is an early bloomer you may have even noticed as early as January in some parts of St. Louis. These blooms are beloved by pollinators on warm late winter days ๐ ๐

When there is not much growing in the garden it is nice to stop and appreciate subtle beauty in form and winter color. Like these turtlehead (Chelone) seed heads, aptly names because of their blossom shape.
The deep navy berries of ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ช๐ข ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ค๐ข๐ณ๐ฑ๐ข provide a nice pop of color in wintertime combined w/ the red-pinkish tint of the new twigs and buds. This native shrub is a great option for ornamental beds tolerant of clay soil & will grow in full sun - part shade.
#enjoyingthewintergarden Dried hydrangea panicles can be beautiful winter interest, staying crisp and full with a tan or golden color in the low winter light. They are dazzling in the morning sun of a partial shade garden!

One of our absolute favorites in the winter garden, coralberry (๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ณ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฃ๐ช๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ข๐ต๐ถ๐ด) is native to Missouri and naturally found in a variety of habitats. The rich coral color of the berries brightens up the winter garden.
Seen a large brown & white bird looming at the edge of your landscape? Perhaps you've seen them in action, making a dive for unsuspecting squirrels, & have seen the flash of red tail feathers? The aptly named red-tailed hawk is one of our most common birds of prey!
Happy #SquirrelAppreciationDay, these little rascals both entertain & frustrate us. It's time to come to terms w/ our "love-hate" relationship. These mischievous rodents play an important role in the garden ecosystem, helping to support beloved predatory birds & foxes.
#WildlifeintheGarden DID YOU KNOW?! When dark-eyed juncos are foraging in your garden beds they are also helping to reduce weeds in your garden. According to the @MDC_online , juncos eat seeds of common weed species such as chickweed, lamb's quarters, and sorrel.
