I’m told that such, and other unclaimed mobile money, is eventually sent to @BOU_Official (who have chosen to ignore all these complaints). If it’s true, then @BOU_Official surely makes billions from the gaps in the mobile money system! Would they then be interested in fixing the sector!
This is critical!
Perhaps it would help that customers register email and alternative contacts where they can be notified by default at least thrice a month before their lines are given away.
DAY 7 - He has called it a criminal ‘SMEAR CAMPAIGN’!!!
————
Dear Mr @dabirungi the @Airtel_Ug PR, I had actually decided to halt the campaign until the X Space tomorrow, to see what comes of it. But, reading you dismissively impute criminality of your customers’ outcries in your opinion piece today goes to show your indifference to your customers’ pains ! Instead, quite disappointingly, and for the second time, you have chosen to adopt a propaganda PR strategy of simply gaslighting and scapegoating your customers as ill-motivated smear agents!
You are not managing a political crisis sir, you are managing business concerns mostly from real customers that you can identify and verify. You can’t typically respond like a politician who scapegoats imperialists when accused of actual theft in order to run away from accountability. It is not wise for business PR. It is a disastrously misplaced PR card. Check the comments under your article itself here; are all those simply @Airtel_Ug haters on a smear campaign or mere ranting fools? For what benefit would your customers smear you!
Style up and face your customers’ concerns squarely without cutting corners in such cold tactless PR that is only serving to annoy them more.
Since you have called it a ‘smear campaign’, we are now going to continue sharing the concerns, until you are caused to see that the problems are real.
DAY 6
@Airtel_Ug has accepted to have a candid engagement regarding the concerns of their customers. The Managing Director Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda will be hosted on an @AgoraCFR Space this Thursday, where the public can directly raise their issues, and @airtelmoneyug responds/clarifies. Hopefully a way forward can be agreed upon in that engagement, for this campaign is primarily seeking for that.
We are also trying to get @BOU_Official to join the conversation as the regulating authority. Specifics will be communicated later. The course we shall take afterwards will depend on the explanations and assurances from Thursday’s Space. Thank you for being part of the Nobel cause.
DAY 5: Anti-theft Airtel campaign
——————
Today;
1. On whatever @Airtel_Ug and @airtelmoneyug tweet, comment under demanding for commitments to stop mobile money theft. Also post there screenshots of experiences of cheated Ugandans.
2. Call their toll-free line (100 on airtel, 0705100100 when using other lines) making demands to stop mobile money theft on their network. Overwhelm them with calls. Share call screenshots here.
We shall have other days for @BOU_Official and other relevant organs.
START…

@enyahourhawa1 is among 30 Ugandan students stuck in Iran due to the war. They need help getting home.
We may not know how, but let’s start by spreading awareness. Someone out there can help.
Whatever is happening in Iran might not concern you,but adding a voice to evacuate Ugandan students from Iran cost zero cents . @enyahourhawa1 is one of those students who are in need of leaving that country... #evacuateUgandanStudentsinIran
