Sports Physicals - June 6th . Meet at the school at 7:15am. All New High School Athletes must have a ECG screening to participate this year. EL2 must be completed & signed for the physical.
I always loved spring games and spring jamborees as a college coach.
It gave you a chance to watch high school players compete before the season ever started.
For upcoming seniors, it was their first real evaluation heading into their senior year.
For younger players, it was often their first chance to shine on varsity.
You’d see:
• Position changes
• Added strength from the weight room
• Young players stepping up
• Under-the-radar guys flashing real potential
High school coaches weren’t always focused on winning and losing during spring football.
A lot of the focus was on player development, evaluation, and giving young players opportunities to grow.
But for college coaches, it was always a chance to see flashes of what players could develop into.
A lot of recruiting momentum — and even some offers — started from those spring evaluations.
After 35 years in recruiting rooms, here’s what I learned:
We didn’t miss players because we didn’t see them.
We passed on players who didn’t fit.
Development. Scheme. Timeline.
Fit > hype. Every time.
