RIP Brian Mugambi Murethi.

Some deaths are painful. Others are made unbearable by the circumstances surrounding them.

Brian was involved in a fatal road accident on the 28th.

He was taken to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. But the heartbreaking part is that his family only learnt of his death today.

Even more disturbing are reports that, after the accident, a first responder allegedly took advantage of Brian’s helpless state, looted his belongings and stole his phone the very phone that could have helped authorities identify him and reach the people who loved him.

Imagine a family going about their lives, unaware that their son, brother, friend and loved one was lying in a hospital, fighting for his life and eventually dying alone.

Every accident victim deserves dignity, identification and the immediate effort to reunite them with their families not exploitation in their most vulnerable moment.

May Brian’s soul rest in eternal peace.

To his family, I am deeply sorry for this unimaginable pain.

May you find strength, answers and justice.

And to whoever took advantage of Brian after the accident: you may have stolen his phone & switched it off imagine the pain you caused his family.

UPDATE: BRIAN MUGAMBI MURETHI HAS BEEN FOUND BUT HIS FAMILY IS NOW LIVING THROUGH ANOTHER NIGHTMARE.

After days of searching for 29-year-old Brian Mugambi Murethi, we are now receiving reports that he was involved in a serious road accident at Sabasaba, Murang’a, and was taken to hospital by police.

Brian is reportedly in ICU and fighting for his life.

But tragically, conflicting reports are now reaching the family claiming that Brian may have passed away.

Until his family or the hospital officially confirms his condition, we must not declare him dead.

What is already deeply disturbing is this:

If Brian was found after a road accident, how did the authorities fail to identify him and trace his family despite his identification documents and the registration details of his vehicle, KDL 586R?

A missing 29-year-old man.

A known vehicle. Identification documents.

A family desperately searching for him.

Yet his family allegedly had to spend days looking for him while he was in Murang'a Level 5 hospital.

This is not just about Brian. This is about how our system treats human life.

Traffic officers cannot become extremely efficient when collecting bribes and suddenly become helpless when a Kenyan's life depends on proper identification, documentation and communication.

Brian is a husband. A father to a two-year-old daughter.

A firstborn son. A businessman. A human being whose family has spent days crying, praying and searching.

To Brian's family: I pray the reports of his death are false.

I pray he is still fighting. And if the worst has happened, may you find the strength to endure the unimaginable.

But we also need answers.

When was he admitted? What identification was recovered?
Who handled his case? Why wasn't his family contacted?

Kenya cannot normalise this.

Brian's family deserves the truth. And Brian deserves dignity whether he is fighting for his life or, God forbid, has already lost that fight.
