I’ll add - it’s his death and resurrection that bring us life because in rising from the dead, he defeats death for us so that if we are in him, to die is gain.
The Father sent his only Son to die for a rebellious, God-hating species full of wickedness and sin.
When he died he bore the full punishment for our sins, the outpouring of God’s wrath (that you and I deserve). It’s his death that brings us God’s gift of eternal life with him.
Jesus summarises:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)
A Christian is someone who has accepted that they are a helpless mess in need of a Saviour and who realises that Jesus is the only way.
They recognise that they can do nothing to make themselves right with God.
The work has been finished, done for us at the cross of Christ.
Part 5 - If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Jesus says “Truly I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3)
Christ suffered once for sins, the Righteous (Him) for the unrighteous (us), that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit. (1 Peter 3:18)
The Father sent his only Son to die for a rebellious, God-hating species full of wickedness and sin.
When he died he bore the full punishment for our sins, the outpouring of God’s wrath (that you and I deserve). It’s his death that brings us God’s gift of eternal life with him.
Part 4 - God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus’ death on the cross wasn’t just the death of one man 2000 years ago - it was that single act, meant for evil by those who did it, that saved his people from their sins.
Jesus says “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
We’ll see more of how and why in later parts.
Part 3 - There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)
Jesus is the only way to God. He is relatable because he is a man, he is worthy to be praised because he is God.
You don’t have to work for a gift. You don’t pay for a gift you receive. Why? Because it would mean it wasn’t a gift. God’s free gift is eternal life in Jesus Christ. To die in Christ is to die inheriting eternal life.
Part 2 - The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Because we are sinners by nature, we are naturally destined to die, and to die in your sin is to suffer eternal death. But God has a gift. Tbc
Part 1 - For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
The Bible tells us we are all sinners, lost and entirely incapable of saving ourselves. We’ve all fallen short of God’s perfect standards, no matter how “good” we think we are.
