Happy #StPatricksDay! In many countries, people celebrate St Patrick’s Day by wearing green. This is one of the many examples of how culture can affect #WhatYouWear. Can you think of any other examples of this?
Five days to go until the exhibit opens! Reminder that the “You are what you wear?” exhibit can be found at the Great North Museum: Hancock. Please follow our other social media pages:

#StorySaturday! Do you own any items of clothing that hold significance in your life? One of our team members was gifted this necklace for her 18th birthday and has worn it ever since. Do you have anything similar to this? How does it make you feel like YOU when you wear it?
For anyone interested, the @GNM_Hancock is free to visit and holds exhibits related to magic and superstitions. The Ancient Egyptian gallery features amulets which many in that culture believed could bring luck to their owner. #WhatYouWear#Friday13th
Many people think that if you wear some clothes inside out, you shouldn’t correct your mistake as this brings bad luck. Many cultures have held superstitions around what they wear. Do you hold any? #WhatYouWear#Friday13th#BadLuck#GoodLuck

Our posters arrived today! Look out for them in public areas around Tyneside as they’ll be going up within the next few days. If you spot any, don’t forget to tag us and tell us where you found them! #WhatYouWear#Posters#spottheposters
These dolls are being removed from the display case for the duration of our exhibit. The front figures originated in colonial India and the larger ones were wedding gifts to a local temple. How do you feel about these objects being removed? #WhatYouWear#Dolls#WeddingGifts
With the project opening next Friday (the 20th of March) some of the team got together today. We’ve been discussing our learning event and object panels among other things. #TeamTuesday#WhatYouWear#Morethanmyclothes
Here’s just a few of the Newcastle kits from over the years. Which is your favourite and why? Tell us in the comments and feel free to share some of your favourites! #NUFC#WhatYouWear
3. As traditional notions of gender identity are called into question, how meaningful is it to talk of how we dress as being ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’? Does the way you dress compliment your gender or does gender barely impact how you dress at all? #InternationalWomensDay
1. On #InternationalWomensDay it is worth considering the affect of gender on how people dress. Actress Marlene Dietrich challenged gendered forms of dress in the 1920s by wearing a tuxedo, a form of dress traditionally considered masculine.
2. Did this make Dietrich more masculine? Or did it actually challenge the perception of the tuxedo as a masculine form of dress? #InternationalWomensDay
Imagine if the team you support changed it’s colours. Would you stop supporting them? Is it the shirt itself that you’re loyal to or are you loyal to what it represents?
