@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase In baseball there can be unintentional deviations from what is correct which, by official scoring rules, should NOT be scored as Errors. There can also be accurate/good plays which ARE scored as Errors. Here's an explicit example directly from the MLB rulebook. Section 9.12
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase I should also clarify that there's no technical rule about having to make contact with the ball, but that's effectively a standard that ends up being applied. It results from many official scorer procedural requirements, some of which are nearly self-contradictory.
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase Again, you have to stop thinking about it in logical terms here. All that really matters is whether there was a misplay which led to the runner reaching base *in the opinion of the official scorer.* If so, then one of the players who made contact with the ball gets the E.
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase The other requirement for getting an E: fielder has to make contact with the ball on the misplay. So if the only difference on this play was that the first baseman COMPLETELY whiffed on it and it flew past him, the third baseman would've been awarded the E. Baseball is illogical
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase Oh 100% the throw should've been caught. The first baseman made a mistake (in English, an error). Baseball lingo is stupid and antiquated and that's not how an Error (uppercase E in the boxscore) is awarded. The big E means that the misplay *clearly* led to runner reaching base.
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase See my other tweet. Your explanation here is 100% accurate using sensible and understandable English. It's also largely inaccurate from the perspective of baseball vocabulary, which is often illogical and has barely changed since 1900.
@CincyNate_@pitchprofiler@RedsInFour@Brewers@MLB Impossible to say for sure. That's why it was a bad scoring decision. Also true that the ball should've been caught easily, which was part of the scorer's calculus. No big deal tho - plenty of star-friendly official scoring decisions are way more egregious than this one.
@LotsOfQueens@OpoyChase It's only an error by official scorer decision (technically that's true of all errors). Prob should've been a hit. The standard rule that you're referencing is that the ball needs to be fully *in* the mitt - i.e. visibly touching the palm part - before foot visibly touches bag
@vancemeek FWIW I mean no anger towards you! I tend to view Wisconsin baseball fans as pretty savvy when it comes to knowledge about the game, but they're probably also hyper-sensitive to criticism. Maybe related to the repeated micro-trauma of great Brewers teams who couldn't win a WS ๐คทโโ๏ธ
@StevenLaForge12@TheRedStripesSG Agreed! It's also not clearly ahead of the runner's foot touching the bag. Ball has to be in the fully in the mitt. Close call and for that reason it should've been a hit. Sort of a silly thing for everyone to go ape about though. Much worse official scoring decisions are common
@NancyMace By demonstrating the strength of Minnesota's prison system and the state's collective leadership to make good decisions based on nuanced facts.
I see you're kicking yours off by deliberately distorting the truth via cherry-picking - a winning strategy in Donald Trump's America!
@_JohnnyVTV@MLB Star-friendly scoring decisions are common and often way worse than this one. Just last week, Bryce Harper cycled on a triple that ๐ฏ should've been a double. I think it's good to point this stuff out, but it's never a problem. We want stars who accomplish great things. Go Miz!
@Blank14198839@NotZ3Music@TMZ Not murdered. I think you mean because I believed that the mother was allowed to make a difficult choice and chose not to bring a child into the world when she felt she wouldn't be able to provide care and love up to her own standard (during pregnancy and/or after birth)
@Blank14198839@NotZ3Music@TMZ Preventing a woman who wants an abortion from getting one ensures lower quality of life during the pregnancy a child likely to have a suboptimal quality of life. My position isn't about preserving human life. It's about preserving quality of life. Same reason I support euthanasia
@Blank14198839@NotZ3Music@TMZ If you're unwilling to accept my points or disagree with them, fine. But don't tell me I'm lying to myself when I know full well what I believe and why
