Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been gifted a plot of land by Janet Fosu, popularly known as Mama Shilo, the CEO of Shilo Convenient Real Estate Limited, in recognition of his impressive performance for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.

This continues to baffle me. Here me out:

Gifty was elected onto the Exco as women’s football representative because she owned a women’s football club called Berry Ladies. She was appointed Black Queens management committee chairperson shortly after that.

Since then, the club has simply stopped playing football.

After their relegation from the Women’s Premier League in April 2025, they were supposed to take part in the second-tier women’s league last season. They didn’t. Nobody told us why.

All the players and officials were forced to look for other clubs to join, with no protection from the GFA. And the woman that supervised all of that collapse continues to serve on the highest decision-making body of our football, and remains chairperson of the Black Queens.

Oh, and while she owned Berry Ladies, she was also appointed Vice President of Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea after she reportedly invested in the club following Nana Jantuah’s takeover.

How do you have money to invest or take up management position in another club while the one that you own is going bankrupt because you stopped bankrolling it?

I’ve always maintained that until we fix some of these ownership issues, we will struggle for trust.

Nobody should be able to acquire a club, and after one or two years, gets up and says “I won’t do again”.

The Nsoatreman owner did it two years ago, Peter Amewu did it last year.

Tens of players and officials with valid contracts, abandoned by the road side with no consequences.

Let’s not even talk about the case of individuals owning/controlling multiple clubs.

We need a very strict ownership regime in our football. Before anyone is allowed to acquire a football club, they must show a sustainability plan that ensures continuity even if the individual ceases to exist. The sudden demise of clubs because owners have lost interest is destroying sustained confidence among fans and stakeholders.

I don’t think our current regulations adequately/exhaustively deal with all the grey lines in this matter.

That is an awful VAR intervention given the manner in which this World Cup has been refereed.
Lamine Camara was sliding in to clear the ball and is about to play it. Youri Tielemans places his foot ahead of Camara’s and is hit by him.
There is no intent to foul. The referee didn’t see a foul. Why VAR intervenes against the African champions when it has declined to intervene time and time again for far clearer penalties is hard to understand.
And the best football team went out.
