> high schooler with no acting experience casted in a leading MCU role
> is fumbled by producers despite being the only one with her head screwed on
> treats Disney as a stepping stone to get into the industry she's long been a fan of as a writer
Insane bragging rights.
In the 1990s we experienced:
Peak Michael Jordan.
The rise of Tiger Woods.
Gas at 99 cents a gallon.
The golden age of Hip-Hop.
The rise of The Rock & Steve Austin.
The rise of Venus and Serena Williams.
A streak of classic Disney animated films.
Sitcoms: Seinfeld, Friends, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Star Trek: "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space 9"
Peak SNES, and the arrival of Sony's first PlayStation.
Marvel Comics sold hundreds of thousands of books a month.
DC Comics' "The Death of Superman" became national news.
Rise of young comics including Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock.
Elite work from established Hollywood stars, breakouts of new stars and filmmakers, classic blockbuster films (and late night TV hosts who promoted the business instead of lecturing audiences).
Nostalgia for the 1990s is strong because excellence across multiple arenas in pop culture was obvious and undeniable, and this excellence enhanced our quality of life.
Fame had to be earned, we could enjoy things together, and algorithms had yet to atomize and divide us.
It was an amazing time to be alive.
For @Playboy, I spoke to adult content creators about the hours of labor their subscribers *don’t* see.
The discrimination online sex workers face for doing their jobs is a labor issue and an occupational hazard. Success isn’t guaranteed, and the work isn’t easy.

Fun fact: Lucas liked The Last Jedi, unlike the installments that Abrams directed. The reason is simple, and revealed here—he wanted something new. Further, the crap that the worst and most negative fans pile on Rian Johnson for Luke Skywalker's arc? That was heavily based on Lucas's own original ideas—a broken Luke in self-imposed exile, haunted by a betrayal of a student, cut off from the Force, and acting as a mentor to a young female protagonist only reluctantly.
Hottest of takes here, but Rian Johnson was simply one of the best directors we ever had on a mainline Star Wars installment, and the fandom is full of childish idiots that should have been ignored. He has the originality of Lucas, respected his vision, and is innovative and the master of his craft. He managed to get more emotion out of the actors for Rey, Kylo, and Luke than Abrams ever did, and his special effects were interesting and spectacular. The throne room scene in particular was truly great.
That more people do not appreciate what Johnson did is because they are philistines. He should have been allowed to direct and write all three installments. Somewhere in an alternative universe, people there got to enjoy a sequel trilogy that wasn't childish and derivative trash. I'm jealous.
Sam Kieth was not just a comic book rockstar artist, he was a kind and patient man. RIP. I met Sam Kieth one time and it affected me greatly. When I was thirteen I heard he was coming to do a store signing at the Mall in Salt Lake.

We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Kieth.
From The Maxx to his work across comics, Sam brought a completely unique look and voice to the industry. His art was raw and unmistakably his. Sam's influence will be felt for generations.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans.
I was at a bar alone yesterday when the bartender said, “Hey, check this message from my sister.” He showed me his phone and it read, “Under no circumstances should you get into a conversation with the guy sitting on your right.”
Men, if you’re ever in a position to do something like this, please do it.
Man to man: If you’re feeling lost, go back to what you loved as a kid. It usually leads you back to yourself. That version of you wasn’t trying to impress anyone or survive, just exploring. When you tap back into it, things start aligning again not perfectly, but honestly.
I’d take it a step further: erase the 40 hour standard, everyone works 4 hour days. More shift changes, more job spaces to fill, more time to enjoy the only life we’re given. Do this and pay them more, money is fake just like time.
