RIP Kai Budde.

Magic and the world lost a GOAT. 🐐

I wanted to take a moment to share three things about him that I will always remember.

1. Unmatched greatness in Magic

7 Pro Tour Wins (most all time)
4 Player of the Years (including 3 in a row)

Like any Magic player, he was one of my heroes. The “German Juggernaut” was inevitable.

2. His sense of humor and love for games.

I think the first time I spoke to him was in a Twitch chat with @MatthewLNass @Smdster. Later I got to test with him.

Talking with Kai, I remember laughing a lot, learning a lot. I never remember once him making me feel less than because he had accomplished so much more.

3. His grace through the end

Kai battled his illness for a long time. There was a pro tour he wanted to attend but couldn’t. His message to the team was so upbeat, that he’d be cheering us on.

I last saw him last year when he visited Denver. Past the point where there was hope left. But I never heard a complaint. I did hear advice on my career that I’ll forever treasure.

He was still my hero.

They say never meet your heroes. I feel blessed I did.
