Attended a joint meeting with Shri Nani Gopal Mahanta, Hon’ble VC, Gauhati University, along with Principals of affiliated colleges and University officials at the BKB Auditorium, GU, to review issues related to the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) and other allied academic matters. The concerns raised by the Assam Principals’ Council were also taken on record.
As the first university in Assam to implement NEP 2020, GU has made steady progress while addressing emerging challenges. The meeting primarily focused on FYUGP, examinations, admissions, and the effective adoption of the SAMARTH portal. Appropriate measures will be taken in due course.
I highlighted issues pertaining to the implementation of NEP and emphasised that personal care and proper guidance should be extended to students so that the academic value of degrees under the NEP framework is clearly understood and reinforced.

Today, I had the privilege of inaugurating Radio Goalpara, 89.6 FM, the first community radio station by any college in Assam at Goalpara College. This station will serve the community with information, education, and entertainment. We also opened a new academic building, with the chief of RHAC, Tankeswar Rabha, Abani Kumar Bhagawati (Retd. Prof. of GU), and former MLA Jyotish Das. I highlighted the need for acquiring 21st-century skills for enhanced employability and market competency.
I hope Goalpara College, accredited A+ by NAAC, will strive to become an Autonomous College soon.
